It's bound to happen, 35 is ancient for fighters below 130.

Rigo is an absolute master, but his best will never be seen in a pro ring. The schooling of Donaire will have to do.

Try boxing someone way taller (never mind way heavier too) than you and see how it changes your style, can't read too much into that fight at all.

Damn, this is a depressing read.

I see what you mean about him becoming more fan -friendly, he was way more aggressive against Amagasa than he was against many of his previous opponents.

It made for a good matc, but I noticed at the beginning of the fight he was getting swarmed by Amagasa briefly at times, very unusual to see him in that position.

Any videos in particular you've been watching where you notice him showing signs of declining?

I dont think he has slipped that much. The flaws he showed recently against Amagassa are the same ones he had when he got hurt vs Marroquin and Donaire. Namely hands too low due to overconfidence and lapse in concentration.

Athletically he isnt as good as he was at amateur level but hes still plenty good enough for everyone at 122. 126 is a bit different but i still think he would be one of the best in the division.

I think he struggled to get away from Amagassa because the guy was massive. It makes it harder to find escape routes when your opponent can cut you off in one step instead of two. Lets not get it twisted though, outside of the kd round he beat the crap out of him. The last few rounds were painful

pretty sad that we aren't gonna see the guys best in the pros.

I agree with this assessment however, I don't like how he reacts when he gets hit. I am not sure if he is stunned or just plating mind games with his opponent trying to let him know he is not hurt. I have seen him stick his head out there when hurt and drop his hands time after time. So far he has gotten away with it. Not sure what to think.

Apart from Donaire he has barely fought anybody in the top 30 in his division.

I think Donaire was slipping a little anyway and he got him at a good time but it's still a good win. Apart from that he has basically been slapped around the ring at times and dropped by guys who are C/D level fighters.

I never understood the love-in for Rigo. He has some very nice skills no doubt but people think he is one of the best fighters in boxing. There's no way guys like Mayweather, Ward, GGG, Kovalev, Gonzelez etc..would be beaten around the ring by fighter as bad as some of whose who did it to Rigondeaux.

Skilful, yes but one of the best p4p best? no, not even close.

Beating Donaire and a load of journeymen in the other fights does not warrant being labeled one of the p4p best.

He's a 34 year old bantamweight. That's ancient in boxing terms.
