Comments Thread For: Gyllenhaal Says Boxing Will Now Remain With Him

Jake Gyllenhaal takes on the role of a champion boxer who tries to turn his life around after tragedy strikes in 'Southpaw', a drama the actor says is essentially about family.

The Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal plays boxer Billy Hope who loses his family, his house and his manager and soon hits rock bottom.

"The story is about a guy who uses his rage to get great success," Gyllenhaal said at the film's premiere in New York.

I've been hearing mixed reviews about the movie. Anybody see it yet?

It's a succession of clichés but it's very entertaining. Depends what you're looking for.

Saw it yesterday, thought it was really good. Jake did his thing, got some sexy shots of Rachael Macadams, 50 Cent's acting was bad but at least tolerable unlike his other movies and the theatre didn't get shot up.

I enjoyed his portrayal in the movie. I thought the boxing scenes were pretty good

Does Brokeback remain with him as well?

Did he really have an orthodox stance in the movie?

I'd rather see the Creed movie instead
