Comments Thread For: Joseph Parker's Rise Gains Interest of U.S. Networks

Rising New Zealand heavyweight boxer Joseph Parker is set to follow in the footsteps of the All Blacks and fight in Samoa.

Plans are firming with a January 23 date in place, and promoters Duco Events now busy working around the logistics of making that happen.

They are in talks with the Samoan government and tourism bosses there, and looking for the right partners in the island nation.

I remember seeing him for the first time either last year or two years ago on NBCSN and I was REALLY impressed with him- but I have not seen him since. He looked very skilled and fluid, this kids got a big future.

Joshua and Parker are the future at HW, IMO

He is the smoothest and most fluid of the current heavyweights, this is true.

His hand speed is just unreal for a Heavyweight, I agree he is very fluid for his size, Look forward to seeing him in America on HD TV instead of watching him on those damn awful Sports Streams

I never understood why new Zealand didn't produce more boxers.

These dudes are perfectly build for the sport. Tough, strong, athletic, dedicated, spiritual, and hungry. Just look at the ones in the NFL.

Maybe he can get this trend going.

He is an outstanding prospect, and he is being very well-handled.

                  Very promising indeed !

                    I can tell you why.

                    1) we are a tiny island, with only 4mil people

                    2) boxing is not very popular in New Zealand

                    3) athletes - all human beings actually, but athletes especially - are a product of their environment..... that environment, is determined by the strength of your infrastructure..... for example, we have produced the very best rugby team in the world ever since William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it, despite only having a tiny population, because of the strength of our infrastructure.

We have the best domestic competition in the world, bar none..... our domestic competition produces world-class players at a very high level..... whereas the standard of boxing in New Zealand is not that great at all, limited to mostly low-mid level club stuff, the level of professional competition just isn't there..... and as a result of that, the money aint there either.

Any domestic-level rugby player, will make more money than a boxer.

International players obviously make a lot more than that.

Parker was likely having too much fun punching his brothers to play rugby
