  • Comments Thread For: Mayweather, SHO/CBS in Talks For Contract Extension?

WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather J.r (48-0, 26KOs), 38-years-old, is still expected to fight on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The current frontrunner is former welterweight champion Andre Berto, but a deal has not been finalized.

There is still no clear decision on whether or not the fight will end up on CBS, but there is very little time to property market a major pay-per-view event.

Makes sense, I doubt Mayweather would go back to HBO with them being the PBC's main rival

Who didn't think this was coming? I know he's trying to get passed 50.

I wish he would just go away and fade off into the sunset. Same with Pacquiao.

I'm a lot more interested in the newer generation of fighters in that division coming up.

3 fight extension? Very interesting. I thought he'd only be back for #50 in a bidding war with cbs/sho and hbo

It's crazy that a 38 yr. old boxer can have this much leverage. I don't think Tom Brady or Peyton Manning could get a multi-year extension for $30 million a year, much less $30 million a fight1 I'm not mad at 'cha! "If it ain't making dollars, then it doesn't make sense!"

so why did he market this fight as the last one of his career?

That's spiteful though bc it's the new generation's obligation ro responsibility to send them packing like Pac and Floyd, and so many others before them, did to the guys who came before them. It's the natural way of things. Like Hopkins said not too long ago, "I can't retire yet because I can still beat half of these guys."
