Neither GGG nor Kovalev need to fight Ward for their career. GGG is fine just staying at MW and unifying the titles. And Ward has nothing to offer Kovalev either as Kovalev is the title holder at LHW. Each unification fight will bring GGG more money than a fight against Ward. This is not a title fight, GGG has no interest in challenging Ward for his SMW title. As a result, there is nothing wrong with a catchweight that falls ABOVE the MW limit and well within the SMW division limits.
Golovkin is a NATURAL middleweight. He has already made it very clear to everyone in the ****ing world that his main career goal is to unify all the MW titles. Fighting Ward does nothing to advance this goal.
Kovalev is one title away from unifying the LHW division. Ward offers him nothing to advance that goal.
As for weight changes, when you are in your 30s, moving up or down in weight is not the most advisable thing to so. You all expect GGG to move up to 168, to gain 8 pounds for one fight that he really has no need for, and after the fight to then LOSE those 8 pounds to return to his fighting weight and continue his goal of unification. But you see no problem with that at all.
Ward is the one who needs the fight with GGG. Ward is the one who needs the fight with Kovalev. Ward is the B side to both fights. And now with Golovkin's next fight on PPV, Ward becomes a distant B side at that. but Ward and his fans think that a fighter who has fought THREE TIMES IN FOUR YEARS should be calling all the shots and be in control.
Yeah... can't get any more delusional that that.
