It would be a bigger fight financially and get a bigger audience. It would also make GGG/Ward a bigger fight next year than it is now. So, for Golovkin, Lemieux is a better opponent right now than Ward.

Dude, neither GGG nor Ward are crossover stars. And the likelyhood is neither ever will be. Before Floyd and Manny messed up boxing fans' minds, we had Ward-GGG type PPV fights seemed like a couple times a year. Those are great match ups that hardcore fans will pay to see. Those are match ups that 300K-350K PPV buys is a success. Floyd and Manny are rarities. GGG will likely never come close to either in drawing. He's a guy hardcore fans care about. And hardcore fans wanna see him fight Ward.

Or, because we are knowledgeable fight fans that realize that just because a guy has a belt, it doesn't make him a top fighter in a division. That there's17 divisions, a 5 recognized world titles per. Sometimes 6 on the rare occassion when the lineal champ doesn't hold The Ring or any of the ABC belts. Adrien Broner is a 3 division world champion. And I'm sure you, nor 95% of the posters on this site, whether they like or dislike AB, have no problems calling his 3 division champion claim a sham. Difference is Ward is lining up one superfight, followed by another. GGG is avoiding a superfight, to fight a club fighter, and calling it a "unification" fight.

Not to mention that club fighter's promoter has already said a GGG fight is at leastva year away. He wants to keep that belt on ice for Canelo. Either as a in-house"unification" should Canelo beat Cotto. Or a bounce back belt should he lose.

I don't know what Lemieux makes. I wonder if he'd ask for something near what Ward would ask for the fight.

Or he'd take a lot less, which would be more for GGG.

I think Lemieux is popular in Canada, I don't really know how popular though.

Lemieux is so popular that HBO didn't want his world title challenge against N'Dam. It's not like he'd cost too much or that it was a tune up, this was a title fight and HBO wanted nothing to do with it.
