Comments Thread For: Andre Ward-Gennady Golovkin Roadblocked Over Weight

It may not be as long as 18 months/2 years.
Hopefully, GGG can get Lemieux this October. If Ward gets busy and reminds people who he is, and the winner of Cotto/Canelo looks like they want to incubate the WBC title for another year before before fighting GGG, he will probably decide that moving up to fight for Ward's SMW title is worth the risk.
It would be a much bigger fight then than it is now.
That is why they are prepared to fight Froch/Chavez at 168, but not Ward.
Also, you talk about the fight being bigger in 2 years time...... after Cotto/Canelo fight..... what if the winner tells Golovkin that he is undeserving, because he has fought nobody, and that he needs to get a name on his resume so that the fight becomes bigger otherwise GGG simply doesn't offer them any value..... just like you are saying about Ward.
What if that same exact situation happens to Golovkin ?
Ward is a name opponent, Golovkin is not.
In theory, every fight could always be bigger if delayed, so it is always correct to delay the fight, right?
That just sounds like another excuse.Comment

I guess you missed the "money aside" part. I don't give a **** ass cheek about money. Ward is the arguably the best fighter fighting within a division of GGG's home division and that's the biggest fight out there for Gennady in terms of increasing his in ring status in the sport.
BTW, Lemieux is a complete and total bum. And a fight with GGG is completely pointless.
Lemieux holds a MW title and GGG wants to unify all the titles in his division. This makes a fight with him much more important to the sport than a fight with Ward. You don't like it? Tough shit! Don't watch his fights.Comment

Beating Ward would trump anything GGG has done in his entire career. And for a 33yr old up-n-comer supposedly fiending for a signature win. He sure look lame dodging the biggest possible statement he can make. And that's beating Ward.Comment

Ward is simply not a big enough fight and GGG is not that interested. GGG is not afraid of Ward in the least and will someday probably get around to whipping Ward's butt. But now GGG wants the clean up the middleweight and will only go out of his way for a big enough draw, and Ward simply is not. Ward did not even fill his own arena in the last fight with tomato can Smith who buckled Ward's knees in the sixth round. GGG had earned the right to fight anybody he wants to and Ward just doesn't fit.
Golovkin did not refuse to fight Ward.
He demanded a catchweight, that did not apply to Froch/Chavez.
Golovkin did not use finance as an excuse to duck Ward, he used weight as an excuse to duck Ward..... so why are you saying that finance is the issue?Comment

Thanks for replying! Could not have done better myself. Really getting tired of repeating myself for people who are too lazy to read an entire thread to see what has already been posted and replied to. And to those who continue to post the same ridiculous comments over and over again, from thread to thread.
I find it amazing and bewildering that some people still hold Ward in such high esteem when the guy has done nothing of worth since the Super Six ended and nothing at all before the Super Six began. You would think that beating Ward was like beating Leonard or Duran or something the way some people post about him.
Whether or not GGG unifies 160 means absolutely **** all in hindsight. He's supposed too. He's the most dominant figure there. He should grab ahold of his baby nuts and man the **** up. Fight the next best fighter up at his weight class. After all, he's the one that claimed he could do it.Comment

I do not consider a Ward fight to be a 'big fight' in ANYONE's career at this point in time. Ward needs a GGG or a Kovalev fight to get himself back in the game and on the road to recognition. Neither GGG or Kovalev need Ward and have more important fights against other champions and contenders in their own weight class to take care of. Fighting someone from another division is a purely financial fight, nothing more. It does not advance their title goals in the slightest.Comment

Lemieux isn't a complete and total bum, by any stretch of those words. He is a world champion, with an exciting style, a bit of charisma and a lot of fans in Canada.
He isn't as good as Ward, but beating him would raise GGG's profile and bring him another world title belt, as well as more money than he would get for fighting Ward right now.Comment

The last post in this thread will be this.....
Nothing complicated about that.Comment

ward has been at 168 for over a decade. GGG can cowboy the **** up and come to 168 if he wants a fight.
Ward was 173.8 on fight night in one of his last fights at 168. GGG has weighed in at 170 on fight night. That is 4 god damned pounds. Even today, their weight difference on fight night is probably not more than 10 pounds.
You got guys like pac and floyd who have spent an entire career fighting guys with 10+ pound advantages on them. GGG can cowboy the **** up.
There is nothing complicated about this situation.
Despite saying that he would fight anyone from 154-168, Golovkin will fight Froch/Chavez at 168, but not Ward.
And the thing is, Golovkin did not demand more money to fight Ward, he demanded a catchweight..... a catchweight that Team Golovkin know will never happen..... so yea, Ward is obviously too dangerous for Golovkin.Comment
