  • I would not want my first loss either. Can't blame Golov!!! Do like Floyd, don't fight anybody you can't beat. Your greatest talent is ability to identify those, so far so good. Keep winning G!!!! Mexican style baby

Chavez Jr was a much bigger draw when GGG wanted to fight him and so is Froch. Ward has not earned the right to dictate anything to GGG. Ward had his knees buckled in his last fight against tomato can Smith. If Ward was a big enough fight GGG would do it. GGG is not afraid of Ward in the least. I think Ward is too out of shape to make 164. Ward has to come to GGG, not the other way around.

On the other hand Ward will have been able to shake off more rust and hopefully get a meaningful win or two himself in the mean time. While Ward is down to fight now at 168, he himself has acknowledged in other interviews that he would benefit from more activity and that the fight could be built up better with a little time.

Both guys are posturing a bit and they both have different timetables (Ward is ready now, GGG is not), but both are real fighters who I believe have every intention of fighting the best in due order.

The fight has a chance of happening sooner if GGG cannot lock down a legit opponent at 160, but the most likely scenario is that he will be ready for Ward in about 18 months to 2 years time.
It may not be as long as 18 months/2 years.

Hopefully, GGG can get Lemieux this October. If Ward gets busy and reminds people who he is, and the winner of Cotto/Canelo looks like they want to incubate the WBC title for another year before before fighting GGG, he will probably decide that moving up to fight for Ward's SMW title is worth the risk.

It would be a much bigger fight then than it is now.

He can beat everybody from 154-168......but won't fight them

Let's cut the BS. Team Golovkin has a sweet deal with HBO where they can fight Willie Monroe level opponents and cash in. When you have that kind of deal, what's the incentive to even challenge yourself? You can maintain the excuse that everybody is ducking and keep the money flowing in.
Ward is simply not a big enough fight and GGG is not that interested. GGG is not afraid of Ward in the least and will someday probably get around to whipping Ward's butt. But now GGG wants the clean up the middleweight and will only go out of his way for a big enough draw, and Ward simply is not. Ward did not even fill his own arena in the last fight with tomato can Smith who buckled Ward's knees in the sixth round. GGG had earned the right to fight anybody he wants to and Ward just doesn't fit.

Thats all that most are saying here.
Don't just latch on to the one factor in all of this that suits your agenda and ignore everything else. It's a lot more complicated than that.

Froch is retired. In GGG's weight range, Ward is the best available fighter. He resides in a division that GGG has said he'll fight in. As a dan of his, why are you not salivating for this fight. GGG wins this, and he probably takes over the top spot on every credible P4P list.

He would also have a better chance of beating Lemieux, who is a MW. GGG is a MW too, remember? And he hasn't ever fought any higher than 160 in his whole career.

Are you seriously going to shit on a fighter for not wanting to move up and fight the best in the world in a higher division, without any feel out fight first, when there is a bigger fight for him in his own division?

"He was gonna move up for Chavez and Froch doe"

Ok, but the possibility of a unification fight with Lemieux wasn't there then, and Chavez and Froch are not Andre Ward.
Thanks for replying! Could not have done better myself. Really getting tired of repeating myself for people who are too lazy to read an entire thread to see what has already been posted and replied to. And to those who continue to post the same ridiculous comments over and over again, from thread to thread.

I find it amazing and bewildering that some people still hold Ward in such high esteem when the guy has done nothing of worth since the Super Six ended and nothing at all before the Super Six began. You would think that beating Ward was like beating Leonard or Duran or something the way some people post about him.

              • ward has been at 168 for over a decade. GGG can cowboy the **** up and come to 168 if he wants a fight.

Ward was 173.8 on fight night in one of his last fights at 168. GGG has weighed in at 170 on fight night. That is 4 god damned pounds. Even today, their weight difference on fight night is probably not more than 10 pounds.

You got guys like pac and floyd who have spent an entire career fighting guys with 10+ pound advantages on them. GGG can cowboy the **** up.

I guess you missed the "money aside" part. I don't give a **** ass cheek about money. Ward is the arguably the best fighter fighting within a division of GGG's home division and that's the biggest fight out there for Gennady in terms of increasing his in ring status in the sport.

BTW, Lemieux is a complete and total bum. And a fight with GGG is completely pointless.

                  • Hopkins was over 40 and jumped to 175 to become the lineal light heavyweight champ. This is a guy who made 154 as a middleweight as well. At almost 50 he stepped in the ring with Kovalev, which Adonis is too ***** to do

When people talk about the best middleweights of all time 50 years from now, Hopkins name will be one of the first mentioned. Nobody will talk about GGG, because he was too ***** to step up and become an ATG. Nobody will even remember who GGG was.

What has GGG since the Super Si....scratch that. What has GGG done in his entire career that allows him to dictate terms to anyone relevant???
