Money aside, because you're not gonna see a cent of what GGG earns. Matter of fact, GGG likely wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. So strictly as a fight fan. Chavez Jr is a bum. Froch is retired. In GGG's weight range, Ward is the best available fighter. He resides in a division that GGG has said he'll fight in. As a dan of his, why are you not salivating for this fight. GGG wins this, and he probably takes over the top spot on every credible P4P list.

        What will change ?

You think that Ward will accept the catchweight and call their bluff ?

If you are right about 18 months time - and I dont see how - will Golovkin have fought a world-class opponent by then, or will Ward be his first?
I believe team Golovkin is looking at Lem this year and winner of Cotto/Canelo next year if they can button that down. 18 months is a little hopeful, but I would expect once GGG has a couple big ones under his belt at 160 he will be more comfortable to move up for his biggest challenge. On the other hand Ward will have been able to shake off more rust and hopefully get a meaningful win or two himself in the mean time. While Ward is down to fight now at 168, he himself has acknowledged in other interviews that he would benefit from more activity and that the fight could be built up better with a little time.

Both guys are posturing a bit and they both have different timetables (Ward is ready now, GGG is not), but both are real fighters who I believe have every intention of fighting the best in due order.

The fight has a chance of happening sooner if GGG cannot lock down a legit opponent at 160, but the most likely scenario is that he will be ready for Ward in about 18 months to 2 years time.

          WTF ?

So, honesty and integrity has an expiry date ?

When a fighter makes a promise, or statement, even for PR/marketing purposes..... how long should we hold them to their word?

Also, Golovkin himself personally made the " 154-168 " statement just a month-or-so ago here on boxinscene..... that is not an old quote at all.

If a big money fight emerges south or north, take that fight.
If it doesn't emerge, it doesn't.

Ward isn't a big money fight for Golovkin; it is for Ward, who can't make money otherwise.
Does Froch hold a belt at 160 ?

            Does Chavez ?

Golovkin was happy to fight those guys MDP, why not Ward ?

            And dont say money.

Golovkin did not refuse to fight Ward because of money, he refused to fight him at 168...... despite recently calling out Froch/Chavez at 168.

Ward isn't the best available fight for GGG. Lemieux is. He would get more money for fighting Lemieux, and another world title to add to his collection.

He would also have a better chance of beating Lemieux, who is a MW. GGG is a MW too, remember? And he hasn't ever fought any higher than 160 in his whole career.

Are you seriously going to shit on a fighter for not wanting to move up and fight the best in the world in a higher division, without any feel out fight first, when there is a bigger fight for him in his own division?

"He was gonna move up for Chavez and Froch doe"

Ok, but the possibility of a unification fight with Lemieux wasn't there then, and Chavez and Froch are not Andre Ward.

Fair post Mukuro, and there is likely some truth in that.

Regarding the bold..... (and this is the point that cannot be ignored)..... he was ready for Froch now, at 168..... but not ready for Ward.

You and I probably both know why..... I just wish they would admit it, and backtrack on that 154-168 statement, because that is clearly not the case.

Golovkin should have to live up to his own hype, or be called out on it.

I'm calling him out on it.

That is the most relevant point in your post.

The usual risk/reward tradeoff, is clearly more about the risk in this case.

Thats all that most are saying here.
