I'm not Mexican. But if I were I would be honored to hear a strong champion like Kovalev say he likes to bring my heritages style of fighting to the table. It's a complete compliment the way I look at it.

Its patronizing
He just saw Golovkin do it and thought it might help his drawing power if he did the sameComment

It's a cool coin phrase and people like the notion of being come forward blood and guts warriors. People are going to run with the moniker if they like it and it applies to them, which it does apply to Kovalev. Problem is he doesn't have to get bloody because he's beating everyone's ass in 1st-2nd gear.Comment

lol, these Russians need to get their own fans. Theyre killing me with this "Mexican Style". I find this whole get the Mexican Style insulting in many ways as a Mexican American, is this suggesting American boxing is running? Is it suggesting Mexicans only know how to fight 1 way hence making them 1 dimensional? & lastly are these Russians trying to capitalize on a weak Mexican boxing era basically making it seem as if we have no one to root for except a Russian?Comment

If you are going tell stories at least get them correct. Main Events never asked for a purse bid. Matter of fact it was GYM that asked for it before they even negotiated with Main Events. You do realize that its not the normal process to go straight to a purse bid, don't you?Comment

But if a Black fighter or fan even mentions "African American style of boxing" the usual retort is YOU'RE RACIST or BOXING IS NOT ABOUT RACE!
This is the fight most AA's face but then get told by most that their struggle does not exist.
Anyhow, if anyone wants to play ignorant and act like they don't know what traditional African American style of boxing looks like, take a look at the following fighters:
Floyd Mayweather, SweetPea, Andre Ward, Roy Jones, James Toney, Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc...
Of course not all African Americans have the speed, reflexes and IQ level to pull this style up, so I don't want to hear any idiot wise guys throwing Shawn Porter and Mike Tyson at me.
The motto for African American style boxing is HIT and NOT BE HIT.
Only the elite can pull it off (i.e TBE, SOG, RJJ, PEA, etc...).
Amir Imam seems to be on his way as well.
