Comments Thread For: Kovalev: I Don't Run, I Try To Use The Mexican Style

WBA/WBO/IBF light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1 24 KOs) is days away from facing his IBF mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi (37-3). The HBO televised fight takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The hard hitting Russian is a crowd favorite who has been compared with fellow heavy hitter Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin. Triple G has recently adopted the slogan "Mexican Style" and has become a huge draw in Southern California.

lol, these Russians need to get their own fans. Theyre killing me with this "Mexican Style". I find this whole get the Mexican Style insulting in many ways as a Mexican American, is this suggesting American boxing is running? Is it suggesting Mexicans only know how to fight 1 way hence making them 1 dimensional? & lastly are these Russians trying to capitalize on a weak Mexican boxing era basically making it seem as if we have no one to root for except a Russian?

you can not not deny that 90% of mexican fighters fight 1 way, brawlers way lol. Its a fact.
And american fighters ( mostly afro-american) prefer counter punching style( Floyd, Ward...)

                  Ward isn't African American.

As a Mexican American, I don't mind what so ever... Mexican boxers have always been one of the most admired style the has been embedded in the history sport for decades. Often the Mexican/Latin American style has been looked at as the Warriors of the sport. Which is what I believe Kovalev is speaking of, which should be a complement.

Kovalev often reminds me of the style of Marquez, often working for a counter although his defensive abilitys are often dismissed. People seem to forget the Russian/Eastern Europeans were looked as more of boxers, like the Klitchko brothers, all the way back to Johansson, Schmeling.
