Comments Thread For: Bob Arum Gives Update Regarding Huge Event in Dubai

Fresh off his latest venture into Macao, promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank is now looking to finalize a fight card in Dubai, which for so long has been brandied about as a destination for boxing.

The veteran promoter told BoxingScene.com on Monday morning - "I got a call today from Dubai and they're coming to the States next week to finalize everything."

So could this actually be happening after all these years of press releases that amounted to nothing? Are they actually at the one yard line with the ball ready to be pushed over the goal line?

            Quigg-Donaire Abraham-Ramirez is a good fight card.

As an HBO-appetizer to Cotto-Canelo ppv, that would make for a great day of boxing.

But we'll see if it happens...

This wont work out at all!! How in the name of god do they expect to hold boxing events in dubai, out of all the places like.

Dubai is a ****** country whit very strict laws. How do they think this will work.
Boxing, drinking and ******** go hand in hand since the first fight ever. All of which is illegal in Dubai. Not to mention people smoking, the varies drug users who would attend an event, and can you really see someone not having a drink while watching a fight???

If bob or any of those boxers or promoters etc.. go their, they will be lucky if they would be allowed leave. Their religious police and all that **** will be out in force.
really dont think they taught this through, Its not macao or vegas or any other place remotely like those.

Arum wouldn't even be the first to promote boxing in Dubai.

ALA Promotions has already promoted in Dubai, and are planning another show in about three weeks.

                    The embassy website warns:
Alcohol is only allowed in licensed restaurants, pubs, clubs, private venues. And to drink at home, you must have a special alcohol licence. Alcohol can only be consumed by over 21s.

Drugs are strictly forbidden, and even having a residual amount in your bag or on clothing could result in a four-year jail sentence. Even if you are importing prescription drugs you may need to get permission from the UAE authorities first.

Sex outside of marriage is illegal and sharing a hotel room could land you in a police cell.

Holding hands is tolerated if you are married, but kissing and hugging is considered an offence against public decency.

Dancing is only allowed in the privacy of your home or at licensed clubs. Dancing in public is classed as indecent and provocative.

Offensive language, spitting and aggressive behaviour (including hand gestures) is thought to be unacceptable. British offenders have been known to receive a six-month jail sentence for such an act and some have been deported.

Drink-driving is illegal and the UAE has a ZERO-tolerance policy. Even having the smallest amount of alcohol in your system is banned. Tailgating, speeding, racing, lane jumping, or using a mobile phone while driving are also against the law.

Addressing women in public, or taking their photo without permission is strictly frowned upon and it is forbidden to take pictures of government buildings.

they really are one of the strict ****** countries no doubt about it. you got to remember tho top rank is desperate they are doing whatever possible to try and stay on top even if that means staging fights in a country with such laws
