  • Comments Thread For: Mayfield: Mayweather-Berto Not Done, I'm Still Possible

Last month, WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) named Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto as potential opponents for his scheduled return on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

After disclosing those two names, very few people took Mayweather seriously. But now it appears that Mayweather may have been serious after all, with Berto being widely reported as the opponent of choice for Mayweather's debut on network television, with the fight taking place on CBS.

I'm not convinced he's even going to fight now. If it's one of these two what's the point? Jr's the only champ I'm aware of who openly says he wants easy opponents. I mean we always knew it, but this mfer actually says it out loud lol.

if the berto fight happens it can only be for 1 of 2 reasons

he's going for 50-0 in the most shameless/meaningless way possible

or he's doing haymon a final thank you by fighting on pbc, in a practical exhibition match

this will be such a hilarious downgrade in money, competition, i can't see why he would even bother for any other reason

if broner is a poor mans floyd then berto is a poor mans broner

              Brook fights Gavin
Khan fights Algieri coming off a loss
              Thurman fights Collazo

And ppl are ready to riot over Floyd fighting Berto. At this point i dont care as long as he vacates the belts so fighters who are actually deserving can fight for them.

Yes he does, that's why he just fought the 2nd best (only behind Mayweather) fighter in the sport and 10 of his last 12 fights have been against current world title holders.

But seriously, I could see Broner losing to Berto. Even this version of Berto. Man that's sad

World champions and Top 5 ranked opponents don't count for Mayweather.
