Haymon cant build stars for ****. Look at Chavez now, dude gets booed in Texas.
Building stars is a lot more than just throwing them on tv.Comment

So far Haymon's only idea seems to be sign everyone up and chuck them on free TV. I think Golden Boy are probably somewhere between the two.
I'll be interested to see where Haymon is in 4 or 5 years. He could well succeed he seems like a fairly clued up guy.
The most important thing for me is that there isn't a monopoly from ANY promoter in the sport.Comment

Its not for Haymon to build the fighter up. Its the fighters job to make his name by performing well. Haymon just putting them on national TV. Porter performance against Broner is a prime example.Comment

Agreed. This is where I think Haymon will come unstuck. Actually building a fighter up from scratch is a real science. Say what you want about a couple of snakes like Don King and Arum but they do know how to build fighters up.

I didn't say every fight has to be fight of the year nor did I say there were no good matchups. What I said is I've been mostly disappointed with the opponent selection and would like to see MORE evenly matched fights like the first two you listed. I never said he was making terrible fights, there's just much better ones to be made. There have been a few good a few bad but mostly just whatever fights. Without getting into every matchup he's put on PBC I will say my two favorite on paper were Lamont vs Garcia and Porter vs Broner. Thurman vs Collazo was absolutely garbage, Collazo was something like 50-1 underdog. Thurman-Guerrero was slightly better but not one boxing writer picked Guerrero so how good of a matchup is that really.Comment

I think part of the problem is that he's asking the fighters who they want to fight so the match-ups are fighter-led, instead of telling them who they're going to fight for the good of PBC and audience.
This is the difficulty with playing both manager and promoter.Last edited by Weebler I; 07-19-2015, 12:43 AM.Comment

When Arum gives you crap fights, I don't hear a peep.
When Hoya gives you crap fights, I don't hear a peep.
When Duva, Hearn, Loffler give you crap fights, I do not here a peep from you people.
But when this guy Al Haymon does it, it's "get this guy banned from the sport"
Listen, if you're not a racist cool, but don't act like you're clueless if someone points out that every promoter in the game is giving you the same exact crap but you only have a problem with one guy in particular that happens to be black.Comment
