Originally posted by RunWithKnivesHe, as well as Ricky Hatton had the same syndrome. Both guys fought their first five fights in the States...and never returned. He faced extremely soft opposition, and his most notable victory was over Nigel Benn.
That's all.
He was the most criticised man in the world of boxing by a country mile,he made it clear that he was only in the sport for the money. He hated boxing, and boxing hated him. He was ridiculed in the press, and grossly underrated due to sheer hatred of the guy. He famously called boxing a "mugs game". But how can you criticise a guy who made Ł 25 million from boxing alone? He was only in the game for the money and he achieved his goal!Comment

The guys who say Eubank was overrated are the same guys who said Hatton and Calzaghe were overrated, difference being that they had the chance to prove they wern't, where as Eubank only really had the Benn victory in his own country, and Benn wasn't American.Comment

I think it's quite easy to criticise Eubank. While he obviously had talent and an unbelieveable chin he never went out of his way to prove it. For him it was all about the money and he made many meaningless defences of his titles to rack up all the money he could. He constantly talked about how boxing was a mugs game and tried to make out he was some gentleman and lord of the manor who was above it all, and would leave the game with his health and wealth intact. Yet he was actually just another poor kid who went through childrens homes and lived on the streets and is now actually broke because he has frittered all the money he earned from boxing away on ****** things.
He also only ever fought in spurts and had trouble with boxers who were relentless and exerted pressure throughout every minute of every round. I think this was partly due to the fact that he was notoriously lazy and did not like roadwork at all.
So you see it's quite easy to criticise Eubank...Comment

When you lose the kind of weight he had to lose and when you leave it until the last few days to lose the weight,he would of been dehydrated about halfway through the fight and that explains why he often stopped working after five or six rounds and his punches would become much sloppier than as sharp and accurate as they were in the early rounds.Comment
