    Mythbusting

What are myths that are commonly parroted but are not in actually true?

    I present to you, myth #1 :

Prime Roy Jones never lost rounds.

While I understand why it is said I think people take it to the extreme that this was the case of every fight during his prime (which is simply not true).

If you watch the fights listed below you will see this is simply not true :

    Jorge Fernando Castro
    Bernard Hopkins I
    James Toney
Mike McCallum (judges scores are not accurate)
    Montell Griffin I
    Eric Harding

This is one that while it is a case of nitpicking it still goes against the myth that some extremists will parrot in regards to his prime

Of course RJJ lost rounds, not sure but I haven't heard this myth, maybe it's an American thing.

Myth: Joe Calzaghe didn't fight anybody

    Kessler
    Bika
    Hopkins
    Lacy
    Veit
    Sheika
    Woodhall

    say otherwise

When you name Sheika and Woodhall its like you're listing fighters for the sake of it. You may as well be naming journeymen.
Veit too whilst I think he briefly held some paper title, I can't recall him ever beating anybody of any note. Lacy, another who simply wasn't world class and lost to every bit of quality he ever faced.
The fact they are listed up there with his best wins tells anybody just how paper thin his resume is.

I'm looking at them in the context of the division, it wasn't as good as it had been in the mid 90s with Eubank, Benn and Collins and a few others. Woodhall was still a good fighter (WBC titlist) as were the others I named, the division started to kick into gear with Kessler and Froch and to a certain extent Bika.

It was weak and didn't help the top guys were not fighting each other that really put a dent in the division but there was loads of better fighters than those and to Joe's credit he even beat some of them in Robin Reid (controversially), Mitchell - at the time, a well past it Eubank is a much better win.
          Woodhall and Sheika were terrible.

they weren't terrible, they just werent on the level of froch, kessler, pascal et al.

I forgot about the Eubank win, a past it top level fighter but he was still good at that time.
