There's two sides to this, he was missing a lot but still landing at a high %. Maybe he did show signs of improvement in the Mayweather and Broner fight but I was originally speaking of the Lopez and Corley fight and his defence was shocking. Argue otherwise and you're lying to yourself.

I asked Corley who was the best fighter of Maidana, Matthysse and Provodnikov. He told me Matthysse, was the strongest, most aggressive and hit the hardest

Maidana as a whole may or may not be underrated. His defense, however, IS underrated. Everyone points at the first Floyd fight, but he showed real boxing ability in the rematch. The difference between Maidana and Matthysse is that Matthysse is a boxer-puncher. Maidana is a pressure fighter. The old Maidana was a brawler. That's the key difference. A brawler is a not-so-skilled boxer who comes forward swinging like Brandon Rios and Provodnikov. A pressure fighter (a true pressure fighter) applies smart pressure. He comes forward while having a defense. Pressure fighters will always get hit more than defensive boxers or counter-punchers. Styles make fights. Check out his defense while applying pressure: Remember, Floyd is one of the most accurate boxers (stats-wise) in all of boxing history. Maidana's new style applies the use of angles, various feints, and a deceptive defense. He controls distance exceptionally well for such an aggressive fighter. And if I had to make a pick, I'd say Maidana steamrolls Matthysse at 147 pounds. Remember, fighters improve over time and Maidana's change in trainer transformed him. Old Maidana loses to Lucas maybe by TKO, but the new Maidana stops him.
