The most recent fight night weight I can find for Rigo is 128, back in 2012. I can't imagine it being any lower these days.

The modern trainer of the worlds best fighters is finally waking up to the fact a couple of pounds at elite level means a lot , its a big advantage to the guy at full strength if his opponent is drained down , and it seems 95% fans have no idea so it gets swept under the rug .

There are definitely more p*ssies in boxing nowadays compared to before.

I got sick of them many years ago when Leonard won the world light heavyweight title by beating Don Lalonde at a weight limit of 168 pounds back in 1988. I thought to myself how the hell could Leonard be declared the 175 pound champion of the world when his opponent was not allowed to weigh in any heavier than 168 ?????? I never recognized Leonard as the light heavyweight champion and I never recognize any boxer as champion if they won their title at a weight below the true weight limit such as Mayweather winning the world 154 pound title with a weight limit of 152 or Pacquiao winning the world welterweight title with a weight limit of 145 when he took Cotto's title. I know nobody cares what I think but to me if you can't win the title at the full weight limit you don't deserve that title. If there is no world title involved then any catch weight agreed on by the two fighters is fine with me. I think catch weight world title fights are unacceptable.

You are not sick of that?

Canelo coming at 172 to fight Floyd at 153 was a disgrace . But Floyd asking Canelo for one pound was the big deal here

It only bothers people what affects their favorite fighter. I am more sick of guys like Floyd and Rigo having to be face dudes who cant man up and fight in their body given division. If we didnt have that, we would not have rehydration clauses
Canelo wasn't 172 fight night against Floyd..he was like 165, maybe smallest I've seen him..

Catchweights are not a new thing in boxing. But back in the day, there were no junior weight divisions. So if you wanted a megafight between the middleweight champion and the welterweight champion they would meet in the middle.

Now you have dudes demanding catchweights to make up a 4-6 pound weight disadvantage. It's becoming a circus and it's getting ridiculous.

Rehydration clauses aren't a bad idea..say 10 lbs or so after weigh in, adjusted for weight class of course. Would be hard to enforce however, probably would cause lots of cancelations..would force weight cheats to fight at a more appropriate weight though..if boxers quit putting on like 20 pounds fight night we wouldn't need all this crap..

Look at alll these catchweight gamesmanship threads. The subject is taking over discussions of actual boxing.

Catchweights are becoming the new way to beat your opponent
