I think Paulie has an excellent chance of taking Cotto the distance, simply because Cotto only seems to have decent footwork when he's circling or backing up. When he stalks, he looks like he has lead boots on. This is not based on amatuer backgrounds, ring experience, or level of opposition, just my opinion that Cotto is alot slower than Paulie. Of course I could be wrong, Cotto may close the gap early and KO Paulie, but based on what I've seen, I say Paulie either outboxes Cotto, or gets tagged early and loses a UD.
What are Paul Malignaggi's chances against Cotto?

Nice to see most are of right mind here...
Paulie has no shot and has been moved incredibly quickly because of the limited time he has left in the fight game due to his hand problems.
If Paulie wins judges will have to be in agreement that they give points for running which I just dont think will happen.
Horrid mismatch that should make Paulie a rich man, if Paulie and Dibella thought they had a long shelf life in this boxing game you'd never see this fight.Comment

I have d/l some Paulie fights. I remember seeing him on FNF but needed to look at him again with a more critical eye. While I think he has more pop than some people suspect because he will now have healthy hands, I dont think he has enough pop to gain respect. There are 2 ways people stalk.
A) Your stalking a dangerous boxer puncher i.e. PBF @ 135lbs, In this case you are cautious because the guy can hurt you cant come in that quick or reckless due to his power.
B) Your stalking a boxer with no power i.e. Bianco or Spinks, here you can come in quicker, take more chances and be less focused on defense because they dont have the power to make you pay for your mistakes.
Its easier to cut off the ring and stalk a guy like Paulie, who doesnt show much power and who wont gain the respect of the elites.Comment

This fight will look like Hakkar vs Hopkins when Cotto explodes on him and if he tries to run.
Everyone knows this fight is a fluke and is only made because it Paulie is from NY and it puts asses in the seats especially being the day before the Puerto Rican Parade if I am correct....This is just to glorify Cotto even further and make him look good. Just another form of another hype machine from HBO.
Their is a more competitive fight 10x's better than this one right down the river.Comment

I agree with you here also. I think Paulie and his Managers dont think he has a prolonged career ahead of him and want to fast forward his career and make some money. Cotto and his Managers like the fight because it gives Cotto a break from Hard hitters and preps him up slightly for other good boxers(who can actually punch though). It also makes sense for the promoters because its day before Puerto Rican day parade and there are Huge amounts Italian and Puerto Rican boxing fans in NY and they will probably get a nice draw.Originally posted by scapHorrid mismatch that should make Paulie a rich man, if Paulie and Dibella thought they had a long shelf life in this boxing game you'd never see this fight.Comment

Just one more point. Even if Paulie loses he still has a few big paydays left for him. He is the polar opposite of Margarito. Because of Paulie's lack of punching power he will sought after as a tune up or setup for mega fights. Margarito because of his power is being avoided like a hoe with an itchy crotch.Comment

Cotto breaks down many of the opponents he faces and I don't feel that Malignaggi will be any different. Cotto has busted up some pretty damned durable fighters...most of them possessing a bit of power to keep Cotto off of them.
I say Cotto breaks down this kids body with those savage rips downstairs, then he comes up and lands punches in combination when Paulie gets tired of moving around.
Cotto has nothing to look out when going to the body.Comment
