Just to be fair, Tyson didn't just stalk Tillis and drop him, Tillis missed a hard hook and Tyson caught him. I also think that even a properly trained Tyson would have had trouble with the Douglas that showed up that night.
not really cause the "REAL" tyson would have done a combo and moved laternal and did head movement in as the combo was done
Well, this was a young inexperienced Tyson who just won EVERY one of his first 19 pro fights by a stoppage. Tillis just happened to be the first experienced smart fighter that handled a young Tyson pretty well. Thats why he survived to the decision. To say that he WOULD beat him if he was more gifted..i dont agree. Tyson did not reach his full potential yet so i dont agree with that.
I remember Tillis missed a big punch, and Tyson countered and sent him packing. I didn't realize Tyson was so inexperienced for that fight when I saw it. I also don't remember Tillis doing all that well.
If only Quick Tillis were not at the end of his proffessional fighting career and more physically gifted when he matched against Mike Tyson I am quite sure that he would have been the first one to defeat him.
No, I don't think so. If Tillis, in his prime, would hold on for dear life and go into survival mode while fighting Mike Weaver for the world heavyweight championship, he doesn't beat Tyson. Tillis was always missing something on "the inside". By the time he fought Mike, he had just lost to Tyrell Biggs and his trainer told Alex Wallau before the Tyson fight that if James got stopped, he'd suggest he retire and if he didn't, he'd go on without him. Tillis was probably in the best shape of his life when he fought Tyson, ironically enough....slim and fit 209, knowing he was at a crossroads. That was the best I've ever seen Tillis.
