Chavez was a limited fighter at any juncture in his career. But he had will, grit, and determination. And heart. Carried him a long way.

      He wasn't limited.

He had modest speed, but excelled in most areas of the sport. Excellent footwork, heavy hands, very good at slipping shots and rolling with them, iron chin, accurate, good variety of punches.

Great combination puncher. None of that Amir Khan-like stuff where it's just fast but not especially accurate. They were fluid, mixed up the body and head, and did the main thing combos are supposed to, which is create and exploit openings.

He could box too when needed. Rocky Lockridge was a good boxer and Chavez outboxed him when he injured his hand, spending probably 90% of the bout boxing on the backfoot and using lateral movement
