WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith 'One Time' Thurman (25-0, 21KOs) has taken no shortcuts in preparing for his upcoming defense against Luis Collazo (36-6, 19KOs) on Saturday night from the USF Sundome in Tampa, Florida. The match headlines the ESPN debut of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).

Collazo is viewed by a significant portion of the public as a huge underdog, especially given the fact that he's one fight removed from a one-sided beating at the hands of Amir Khan.

Thurman is no dummy. He realizes, and admits, that a victory over Collazo is not going to significantly affect his current standing in the division.

But at least Thurman is being real about it. He understands the way this game works and in boxing your just about as good as your last fight so it has a huge affect on how the public perceive you.

I think another dull performance could take a hit on his stock, but I won't say he's a hype job yet. He definitely needs a better opponent to see what he's made of, but that will come in time.

Opponents in boxing are like raises and promotions in "normal" working jobs. They come in time, and all you can do is hope the next one will be better than the last.

LOL Kind of funny that when Thurman takes fights like this because WWs duck him...certain people understand that...

But when Triple G is forced to take fights like this because fighters are hiding in the 155 lb and 172 lb divisions...people say he fights cab drivers...

Can't blame Thurman for staying active and fighting whomever they put in front of him, definitely not his first choice...

He should deal with Collazo comfortably, Khan, who is an average puncher hurt him several times and wasn't far from a stoppage. His real tests are Brook, Maidana and even how he handles Khan until the inevitable KO.

i like how self-aware thurman is, he seems like a real boxing fan as well as a fighter. i hope haymon or kenny porter don't get in the way of him having a big fight in 2015
