I can almost guarantee Leoffler is going to backtrack on this one and in a day or two say something like "Golovkin is willing to fight at 168 no catchweight, my mistake". GGG has always maintained he's against catch weights.
I don't get why he said this. I guess he's feeling pressure to get a big name. All he had to say was "we plan on staying at 160 and we only plan on going to 168 for big money fights and the fight with Ward needs time to marinate."

You cannot compare a middleweight champion fighting another middleweight at a catchweight with a middleweight fighting a supermiddleweight at a catchweight. Two entirely different situations. You can be against the catchweight, as I am, without having to try to make comparisons which make you look like an ass.

Obviously I'd rather the fight at a full divisional limit and it should eventually be at 168lbs. However, part of my thinks that a 164lbs fight would be fair. Ward is bigger than GGG and 164lbs is right in the middle. Surely that's a pretty compromise. Why would GGG have to move 8lbs and Ward none?

GGG moving all the way up and proving his worth would do the world of good for his legacy and his current standing. I do wonder why the fans demand movement from him and none for Ward, though.

When GGG started his little run on HBO he started calling out everyone from 154 to 175 or 168. Thats also the time when all the myths came about that he was knocking heavyweights out in sparring. You're a fan. I'm sure you remember all of this.

So why the tune change now?

I don't blame GGG, I actually feel bad for him. His promoter hasn't brought anything to the table...as in notable fights. I wish GGG was with Duva or even Haymon. If GGG was with Haymon, his stock will rise so much because he would be on PBC.

Doesn't seem like Loeffler and GGG/Abel are on the same page with catchweights but if Tom is serious about this than that's complete bull****. I can't defend it just like I won't with other fighters. Fight him at the full weight or don't say anything.

I don't blame ward for not accepting. His last two fights netted like 4M+ for fighting edwin rodriguez and paulina smith.
