I wouldn't take Tom Loeffler's comment as the end all, I do believe it could be negotiations. That is the first offer, of course Ward can counter that and they can meet in the middle. We've seen promoters say stuff like that a thousand times and end up agreeing to something totally different. Especially when they say 50/50, that usually always means they'll take less because if they truly believed Golovkin was A side, he'd straight out say 60/40.
Now, there is something to be said about the fact Golovkin would be the one moving up in weight however. They could feel that hey, if you want us to move up out of our own weight class, you better make it worth while ($$$). Like with Froch, it would have been a very big payday. For Ward, not as much. But at the same time, they are the ones looking for a fight so they'll have to take what they can get.Comment

The flip side of that is assuming GGG beats Ward at 164. The fact is that size is an issue, and I'd rather see the fight fought on an even playing field. 166 sounds good to me, but it is up to Ward what he can make without being overdrawn. Hype and contradiction aside, I don't see anything wrong with the offer.Comment

Ward was 173 with three weeks to go till the fight, so not that much of a stretch tbhComment
