Kiko Martínez had at one time been mentioned as a possible opponent for Leo Santa Cruz, particularly when the Spaniard held the IBF super bantamweight title. While he prepares to face Scott Quigg on July 18, Martínez gave his opinion to BoxingScene on the potential forthcoming clash between Santa Cruz and Ábner Mares.

"I think it's going to be a good fight, it's one that the fans want to see," Kiko said.

im super excited for this fight. people need to quit living in the past. the fight is made now who gives a **** about what happened in the past. the only people who are pretending not to be excited for this are the ones who want the pbc to fail. some odd reason they just hate all the extra boxing to watch. No doubt about it tho its going to be super interesting to see how santa cruz handles it. i could see mares winning for sure. the only reason this fight did not happen sooner was the mayweather pac fight. they would of been wasting a great matchup when it would not of had any effect on the ppv sales. i think people need to quit living in the past tho cause haymon and the pbc are working with other promoters not pulling out of purse bids they are letting their fighters fight each other. i mean we got broner porter now this i mean haymon is not babying his fighters. the only ones left who are being babied in a sense is khan. this has chance to be the fight of the year

I am a bigger fan of LSC than I am Mares. That said, I didn't like the way Mares looked in his last fight. He was getting NAILED time after time. He is lucky the guy he fought had NO power whatsoever or Mares would've been KTFO badly.

This looks to me like an easy win for LSC.

Not like LSC looked awesome in his last fight. He took a lot of shots as well from a sup par opponent at best. LSC has no real power so I don't think he can stop Mares and he is easy to hit. That said I'm really looking forward to this fight as it is two guys that really don't like each other and it should be a war. I got Mares with a late stoppage.

Mares should be too fast for LSC. Leo gonna have to throw a lot punches to have a chance..

I thought Mares fought Reyes as a prep for LSC. I didn't like how often Mares was getting tagged. I thought Mares was tentative, confused almost scared at times.

I agree with you that LSC hasn't been in with anyone of note recently. He hasn't looked great. I get the sense he is bored by fighting easy guys.

I too am looking forward to the fight as I like both guys and didn't give up on them as others have. I just really didn't like what I saw from Mares in the last fight.
