  • Sugar Ray Leonard won a title at Light HW, Can You Imagine A WW Doing That Now?

Rewatched Leonard's fight with Lalonde for the WBC light heavyweight title, crazy stuff. The guy was huge and Ray admitted that every punch hurt, Donny looked like he was gonna get Leonard out of there multiple times but SRL made a comeback and even stopped the LHW. That is some serious power. Can you imagine a welterweight attempting that today? Fight is well worth the watch. Credit to John Molina Jr for recommending it.

No ww today could even come close to that, but they are also a lot smaller these days and SRL was an ATG top 10-15 fighter

          Correct.

For both the SMW and LHW titles on the line.

Much backlash at the time, deservedly so.

Roy started at 154 and won a title at heavy. Beat that

That was a catch weight at 168. But SRL was simply a much greater fighter than ANYONE fighting today. He could do everything, and he knew how to finish off opponents -- and he had the firepower to do it.

SRL is an all time great but lets have a little bit of self respect and not call him a light heavyweight champ. Ever.
