Beterbiev thinks he's ready to fight the best in the division when he called out Kovalev, and Stevenson is the lineal champ.

    War Haymon

Same reason why Top Rank hasn't put Lomachenko in with Walters yet; it doesn't make sense for either party yet, especially with both fighting for GYM.

Beyond that, with Fonfara, Beterbiev, Alvarez and others already properly positioned, Kovalev is either going to have to fight them via purse bid (with PBC showing that they've got the financial commitment to get fights they want) or give up his titles (Things are basically positioned that he'll likely only have the WBA light heavyweight title within 18 months).

With plenty of fights for both guys to work through till then, where's the rush? Beterbiev is only 30 years old and Stevenson, even though he's 37, has only been a professional boxer for 8 years, and an amateur for two years (in comparison, though Kovalev is 32, he's been boxing for 20 years, 6 years as a pro).

Give it 1-2 years, Beterbiev picks off at least one of Kovalev's belts, and Stevenson-Beterbiev becomes an even bigger fight.

GYM is not a sham promoter, Yvon Michel has been around much longer than Haymon has in boxing. BUT they are now a Haymon puppet promoter for all intents and purposes. Yvon Michel stated when he first started promoting Beterbiev that he and Stevenson will NEVER meet in the ring. And this was before Beterbiev signed with Haymon and the decision has absolutely nothing to do with Haymon.

Because beterbiev hasn't had many fights and hasn't fought anyone decent

If you understood boxing you would know you don't go from bums to the lineal champ

Beterbeiv, for a prospect, has faced some good opposition. He has disposed most of them with ease. But he still needs 3-4 fights, not just for experience at world level but to build his name.

I would guess they aren't in that much of a rush with Beterbiev. Fonfarra would make more sense but I couldn't see them being in a rush for that either.

I cant almost guarantee that this fight will never happen unless one of them gets exposed and starts declining. Michel doesn't exactly have a great roster of talent. He's not going to risk losing one of them, unless it's against Kovalev.

No way these two fight before this match becomes MUCH bigger. And despite his crushing power, Beterbiev needs more seasoning before taking that fight.

Like Bob Arum does with his top fighters, Haymon is letting the fight marinate!

Even if they weren't both promoted by GYM IMO there is no reason to think Beterbiev is ready for the linear champ. He needs to step it up against higher quality fighters like Chilemba before he's ready for that. I like Beterbiev but I don't think he looked to good in his last fight - he needs more fights. He looked good against Cloud but Cloud has no confidence anymore and IMO he never had the style to beat a strong guy like Beterbiev.
