First off, I don't think its fair to say Hamed ducked Floyd. During that era, it was Hamed, Barrera, and Morales who all ducked JMM. If memory serves me correctly, Hamed may have even dropped a belt to avoid JMM because Juan was his mandatory. The Barrera-Morales rivalry started at 122, I believe on the debut of HBO's BAD series. Manny really wasn't even in the equation. Once Pac hit the jr featherweight division, I believe Barerra and Morales had already moved up to 126, with Barrera's classic embarrassing of Hamed. And it was after the Barrera-Morales rematch that Pac got a shot at Barrera. And Pac actually moved up for that fight. It was almost a stay busy fight for Barrera. I have always respected Pac for his next move, which was giving the longtime avoided JMM a shot. He didn't have to. He just man'd up where Barrera, Morales, nor Hamed would. Then after the draw with JMM, Pac moved up to 30 and lost to Morales. To say Morales destroyed Pac is an overstatement.
All in all, Floyd was never really seriously considered as an opponent for any of those guys. Floyd was calling out the DLHs and Mosleys of the world. Even when they were fighting as welterweights and he was a jr lightweight. Hell, he almost signed to fight Winky Wright at 54 when he was still fighting at 30. The only fight Floyd kinda left on the table at 30 was 'Popo" Freitas, who had just beaten Casamayor. But by then, I think Floyd was having trouble making 130 and moved up to fight the top guy at 35.
