Comments Thread For: Hopkins: Cotto-Canelo is 50-50, Maybe 60-40 For Cotto

According to recent reports on BoxingScene.com, the mega-fight between Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez is close to finally coming to fruition. The fight will likely land in Las Vegas on either the 7th or 21st of November.

Golden Boy Promotions partner/shareholder Bernard Hopkins is also very excited about the fight that many observers feel is a close to even fight. Regardless of who leaves the ring with his hand raised, Hopkins feels the fans will be the real winners.

      Hopkins is just creating hype.

Obviously he's not going to say "Canelo is going to KTFO Cotto"

Which is what's going to happen.

for those who didnt read the article:

"Whether Canelo wins - which i am hoping and i am pretty sure he has the tools and i know he has the skillls to do it - is it going to be a cakewalk? is it going to be handed to him? Hell no. Its a tough, real, great fight" Hopkins.

to be honest, the more i think about it, the more i favour cotto in this match-up. canelo might get the best of it when they actually trade punches, but he's shown an unwillingness or inability to lead the action in the past - hence the close calls against trout and lara and the non-show against mayweather - and cotto can be relatively slick, at least for half of a fight. but i think canelo simply won't force cotto to work hard, and so cotto won't gas out and he'll be able to box within himself for the duration

              I favor Cotto, as well.

To beat Cotto, you have to throw a high volume of punches, have stamina and move around the ring, and Canelo doesn't have any of those. Canelo is a "flat foot" unidimensional fighter. Cotto fights in angles, have power, better boxing skills and experience. Cotto TKO by the 10th round.

It will be fun to watch whoever wins. It won't be a Provodnikov vs Rios deathmatch. But it won't be a Floyd Runweather fest either.
