Comments Thread For: Hatton Compares Zepeda-Flanagan To Calzaghe-Lacy

Former world champion Ricky Hatton has backed fellow Mancunian Terry Flanagan to beat Jose Zepeda to the vacant WBO lightweight title on July 11.

The 26-year-old Flanagan (27-0-0-KO10) will have hometown advantage at the MEN Arena when he faces the hard-hitting Zepeda (23-0-0-KO20).

The American has disposed of his last four opponents in less than three rounds but Hatton remains confident and has compared Flanagan's task to Joe Calzaghe's when he defied the odds to beat Jeff Lacy via unanimous decision in the same city back in 2006.

except zepeda is not a lacey clone, he can switch hit, he's got the more advanced counter punching game. I got zepeda at 7/4 he's going to end up as favourite most likely.

I think it's more of a case that Terry Flanagan is nowhere near Joe Calzaghe

i haven't seen zepeda fight yet, but according to boxrec he's never fought below jr welter before, in fact mostly at welter? so how come he's now fighting for the lightweight world title?

I noticed the bookies have Flanagan favourite.

                SKY Bet : Flanagan 4/7 - Zepeda 11/8
                William Hill : Flanagan 8/11 - Zepeda 11/10

That guy who's always on about the commonwealth title is always mentioning him! I saw him fight the irish guy, he held and spoiled constantly, rather like miguel vasquez, you have to force yourself to watch it.
