Kovalev is the most marketable boxer on the planet, but the promoters are too ****** to market him correctly. They need to get him say he wants to crush his opponents skulls and permanently disfigure them in his native tongue and put English subtitles underneath and have him come out with a communist flag and bash America after every single win.

That's a little bit WWE/Rocky. But, it would be awesome to see him in subtitles say, "His weak American punches could not faze me! Puuuuuuttttiiiinnn!" People would hate him so much they would pay to see him get beat. He'd be like Floyd with the PPV.

The young hungry lion Vargas? What exactly has Vargas done that makes him any good? Outside of being promoted well, hes done nothing really.

Vargas has fought good competition. Got some gifts in there, but he's clearly more skilled than either Broner or Porter.

Think taking on this persona with KOv would dramatically increase his profile, Not really impressed with how Main Events has marketed him up to this point. He's only known to hard core boxing fans even if he has the division on lock he will probably never cross over

I suggested the same kind of anti American PR for Rigo in a thread a couple years ago. If the fans won't love you make them hate you regardless they'll tune in to watch you fight. Indifference is what you don't want.

Kovalev still has to live in the States though, setting him up as some aggressive Soviet icon would necessitate bodyguards to protect him from nutters.

What needs to be done imo is to harness the Mexican-American audience out West in the same way as Golovkin. Kovalev was mobbed by fans at a recent event in CA (can't recall which fight it was), Main Events have been wasting time trying to build him up in Atlantic City trying to create another Gatti, it's never gonna happen.
