Neither seems like they'd duck a fight. I think the fight needs to marinate for at least another year.
So ggg-ward needs to happen right away, with ggg moving up 8 lbs to meet ward at 168,but ward-kovalev needs to marinate some more, when ward is only 3 lbs away from kovalev, fighting at 172?
The Question is not IF. The Question should be WHEN Andre Ward beats both GGG and Kovalev.
I remember when Mayweather said that before the Corrales fight. It was either Brian Kenny or Max Kellerman, but they were saying IF you beat Corrales, and Floyd corrected him quickly with "it's not IF I win, it's WHEN I win".

Simply because GGG is at the height of his popularity.
Will he immediately be considered an All Time Great? GOAT status?
I say Ward and GGG meet at a catchweight of 165. I give Ward the extra pound because he would be sacrificing the most between the two.
He's the one losing weight, plus if GGG wins, he can campaign permanently at 168. In the reverse, if Ward wins, he wouldn't permanently or temporarily move down to 160.
If Ward wins those fights and then goes on to become undisputed champion at 175, Ward gets his name into the conversation.
Ward goes on to pick off a title at cruiserweight and then pick off a heavyweight championship then, yeah, Ward would have a definitive case to be called the GOAT.
Just check the possible resume:
-WBC/WBC super middleweight champion (Ring champ/168 kingpin)
-WBO/WBA/IBF light heavyweight champion (175 kingpin)
-champion at cruiserweight
-champion at heavyweight
-possibly unbeaten by this point (having not taken an L since he was 14 years old)
outside of possibly Sugar Ray Robinson or Joe Louis, what other fighter would have a resume to compete with that?
Beating Froch and Kessler when he did were better wins.
Kessler: Favored to win the whole Super 6, obviously also favored to beat Ward. Favored to beat Froch, which he did, favored to beat Abraham, Taylor, which let's face it, he would have beaten them.
Froch: Probably a HOF SMW in the very least.
Kovalev would be a great win though. GGG, I just want to see Golovkin get beat and look lost.
Maybe however GGG and Kov are in most p4p rankings. Froch and Kessler werent. Kessler's win ledger then was no better than gggs now, prob worse. And HOF Froch doesn't like his chances vs undersized MW on his home turf and would rather retire
All time great status, maybe but I doubt it, he's in an extremely weak era for 168 pounders! And regardless of whether you feel Bute was exposed, the fact that Ward wanted no piece of him damages him!
Goat status, gtfo whats with guys on this forum bestowing this to every other guy these days? You realise it means greatest of all time and we apparently have about 20 of them now! Does nobody see the logical failure in that??
Golovkin has no record at SMW, it wouldn't mean that much.
Beating the champ from the division below who has no record at a higher weight really isn't that impressive.
Golovkin isn't proven better than any of the top 10 SMWs at this point in time.
Kovalev on the other hand would be an exceptional win. To move up a division and beat the champ and arguably the hardest pfp puncher in boxing would be an impressive feat.
But let's be real, Ward probably doesn't fight either of them. He's been a diva since the Super 6 ended.
