Comments Thread For: Braehmer Defends WBA Belt Against Konrad on Sept. 5th

WBA light heavyweight champ (standard version) Juergen Braehmer (46-2) defends the title September 5 in Dresden against Konni Konrad (22-1-1) in the headliner of a Sauerland Event promotion.

To say that Konrad is an underdog is to put it mildly. He began his in 2002 and racked up 15 straight wins before losing to Denis Inkin in 2006 and since then heīs been fighting on and off. He beat Bernard Donfack on a majority decision in 2013 and drew with Mehdi Amar in 2014 to hang on to the WBA Intīl title and his ranked # 13 by the WBA.

The sooner this guy loses his belt the better, he can fight any scrub he so chooses. Upon Kovalev being enforced he's vacating anyway and going on to fight Abraham, Stieglitz and Sturm in the money spinning domestic scraps.

Sauerland's ultimate fraud belt holder beating up another cupcake in a "title defense." No surprise here. His German fans would pay to watch him slap around a one-armed 75-year-old so Sauerland can milk this for another four or five years

It would have been for a secondary title (Kovalev is the true WBA belt-holder) and Braehmer only fights at home, so Sauerland would have held it in Germany. Fonfara is a comparable, if not better and better-known, opponent. I guess it depends on the money offered and whether Cleverly thinks having a second-tier paper belt is more important than fighting a top contender in the U.S.

So pitiful that a supposed champion has this level of competition for his belt.

Shows you why nobody cares about the WBA.

              Konni Konrad? WTF?

Cleverly is actually taking a harder fight and more lucrative.

                You're actually defending this crap?

In terms of matchmaking, that's what Stevenson's people thought. Fonfara was a cherry pick that went wrong. He's not a bum but he's not amazing and he's certainly better than Jurgen Braemer.
