Won't get into political diatribes but if people ACTUALLY went by the letter of the bible eating shellfish would be an abomination. Just as bad as a man laying with a man. Furthermore people being stoned to death would still be a thing. Do you know southerners used the bible to justify slavery in the 1800s? Nothing is more irksome when one uses the bible to serve their personal needs, interpreting in any way they see fit to discriminate against others.

Actually, this is not true. If you go by the letter of the Bible you'really supposed to understand that the Old testament is God's pact with Israel, and the purpose of the law from the old testament was to define what is wrong. Example, there's no way for you to know you're speeding unless we have established speed limits.

The new testament is about the new pact. Jesus came to fulfill some prophesies from the old testament and replace the law with the new pact of grace. Only a few things remained from the old law, and those include idolatry, ingesting blood and sexual immorality (just a summary).

All the eating limitations were done with in the new pact, and a much better way to confront the hypocrisy of the institution known as the church today is with the tithe, that is something from the old testament that should have died with it, but pastors pick and choose what applies and what not.

For the record, I'm in favor of the gay community having the same civil rights as the rest of us.
