Arturo Gatti may not have been an elite fighter but he did compete in 5 Fight Of The Year, a Two division champ.
micky ward was in 3, and he shouldn't be in the hall of fame. being exciting shouldn't make yuo a hall of famer on its own. obviously you're aware of just how many multiple division titlists there are in the era of the alphabet / paper belt.
paulie malignaggi is a two weight world champion, for example.
IIRC, gatti was only in 4 fights of the year. only 4, NE? not that that doesn't mean he's not exciting, but we need to get fats straight. ruelas, robinson, and two fights with micky ward.
LOL. That coward is nowhere near being in the hall of fame. Who has he beat? The Super Six Euro Bums? And some American journeymen? Seriously, that tournament is the most overrated boxing event in history.
CoWard hasnt done ****. And he is still avoiding TGE hard.
Gennady wants ALL THE TOP NAMES, NOW. Not in future, NOW. But they are all ducking TGE and somehow its Gennadys fault lol.
Well how difficult is it to get in?
When someone like Arturo Gatti (May he rest in peace) makes the hall of fame, as exciting as he was, how difficult is it to make it?
I remember a few months before I signed up to post here, I was reading a thread discussing which of Floyd's opponents did enough to get into the Hall of Fame. Mayweather has a good amount, but then I was just questioning some of the fighters being mentioned. Did guys like Gatti (who is already in it), Hernandez, Corrales and Castillo do enough? If they did, then Ward probably does make it in, because in my opinion he has a better resume (in terms of wins) than those four guys.
Personally I would say no, not quite yet. But he could make a case for himself.
No. No one with his record deserves to be in the Hall unless they died at a young age in a tragic accident or from a tragic disease. His most recent three fights do more to impede his induction than to hasten it. He needs a number of significant victories and needs to be much more active to deserve a spot in the Hall.

Ward will probably retire with less than 35 fights and that in my view no matter the compition, it's a no. Unless he fights Golovkin, defends the belt he has right now against stiff compition or champs and move up dominating the light heavyweight division.
I do not see that happening!!! Ward is happy making big money against Journeymen. I doubt he will ever fight Golovkin or Kovalev... Most likely will fight Stevenson and drop the belt after the win.

I agree that there should be some sort of minimum number of fights to be eligible for induction to the Hall. Other than a career cut short due to tragedy.
I doubt he will ever fight Stevenson or Beterbiev due to the climate between Roc Nation and Haymon. His only chance would be to fight and defeat both GGG and Kovalev in convincing fashion, that means stoppages - not decisions, to have a chance of entry.
Or he unifies all titles at SMW which would make him the first to do so and gain him entry to the Hall on that basis alone. That would require three fights and wins against the other division champions.

Which is a very long shot. Ward is happy with competing at once or twice a year as if he as accomplished so much in his short time but the feeling is obviously different with his Promotional Company and Trainer. I enjoyed Ward for awhile but his acts as if he doesn't need much of a future in the sport.
