  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: No Word on GGG, Strong Possibility Froch Retires

Former champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs), who turns 38-years-old next month, is likely going to retire, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport.

There was some talk of potentially facing middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, but no word has come down from Froch in weeks regarding his future in the sport.

Froch has been inactive since May of 2014, when he knocked out George Groves before a crowd of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Interview is like 3 weeks old and tells us nothing new.

    Another pointless boxingscene article.

Considering Parkinson posted the interview TODAY...3 weeks is quite an exaggerated stretch.

It sounds identical to every single Eddie Hearn interview that he's given on Froch in the last few months and tells us nothing new. So yeah, completely pointless.

Boxing Scene is a boxing news portal set up to report whatever 'news' manifests from one day to another.

What really IS pointless is Hearn coming out every week or so saying that "Carl still hasn't made his mind up yet". Or maybe it's the reporters asking Hearn "any chance of the Golovkin fight happening".

If Froch hadn't mentioned GGG he'd be in the news less than half as much as he currently is - so yeah, we get why he mentioned GGG - to stay more newsworthy. But best for all concerned to recognize it was just that - an exercise in self promotion and then he hides behind Hearn while he swans off to the beach.

As I have mentioned before, Froch has now had 13 months to sit down with "my beautiful model wife Rachel", his trainer and his promoter to discuss whether he will continue to fight or retire. It'd be nice if he could either put up of shut up or at least stop using Golovkin's name to stay newsworthy.

                  Butthurt about what exactly?

Your two favourite fighters got absolutely embarrassed in their last fights

And let's not even get into the Cup Final.

                  You're a complete mess.

This isn't news. And yes, Hearn as a promoter is in the public light promoting other fights and inevitably gets asked all the time about Froch's future.

Why would Froch, a man with a HOF career who earned £9m for his last fight need to "stay newsworthy" by mentioning a fighter with a piss poor resume who's only just cracked a million dollars?

Froch has only ever responded to Team GGG's constant and desperate pleas to give them a a payday. If Froch decides to whistle, they'll come running. Until then, GGG will wait like a "Good Boy"
