  • Oscar De La Hoya: "Lemieux hits harder than Golovkin"

    http://www.************.com/boxing-m...e-la-hoya/7582

I'm not sure if that's true but he definitely hits with comparable power if not harder. The guy hits like an absolute mofo, I had a headache watching him pound on N'Dam(n). He still lacks in the boxing department so I favour GGG to beat him. But he has serious power and if he hits you in the chin, "brother you are going down"!

I personally think Lemieux shouldn't fight GGG yet, I'd like to see it but Lemieux has already had two career setbacks and you've just become champion so fight a few mandatories and then consider fighting the number 1 guy.

Not sure why it wont let me post the article but here it is:
By Jeff Newman: Canada’s David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) could be the Canadian version of Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya, and like he does with Canelo, De La Hoya is building Lemieux up to be the next superstar of the middleweight division.

De La Hoya says Lemieux is a bigger puncher than WBA 160lb Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs), who De La Hoya personally sees as a flawed fighter. De La Hoya not only thinks Lemieux hits harder than Golovkin, he thinks he hits a lot harder than him. They both punch pretty hard, and I’m not sure how De La Hoya can tell how Lemieux is the harder puncher without putting them on some kind of punching machine that tests the power they generate with their punches.

If Lemieux does hit harder than Golovkin then the middleweight division is going to have someone dominating that division for a long, long time. Lemieux is only 26, and he likely has another 10 good years left before he starts to age out of the sport. His power will likely continue to be formidable into his 40s, but I doubt he’ll still be around at that point. Most fighters that make a lot of money tend to get out of it fairly early in comparison to the guys that have to stick around just to make a standard living.

“He [Lemieux] hits much harder than GGG and he’s a fighter who will press the action and fight him back. It’s an amazing matchup,” De La Hoya said to ESPN.com.

It might not matter that Lemieux can punch harder than Golovkin. With both of them having amazing power, it’s probably going to come down to whoever the better fighter is in terms of boxing skills. I’d say the better fighter of the two is Golovkin by far. He’s got Olympic experience and he’s better at cutting off the ring. He also has a better right hand than Lemieux. The thing with Lemieux is he’s mostly committed to his left hook. If you take that punch away from him, he’s only got his right hand which isn’t a formidable weapon.

Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, who manages Golovkin, wants to match him up against Lemieux this year. He doesn’t want to wait until 2016 before the two can fight. However, De La Hoya says he wants to put Lemieux in with Golovkin next year because he’s got a mandatory due for his IBF title. Loeffler has already talked to the IBF, who said that Golovkin and Lemieux can go ahead and face each other this year. I wonder if De La Hoya even bothered asking the IBF if they be allowed to put him in a unification fight for his first fight as the IBF champion, or if De La Hoya simply used the mandatory defense as an excuse to swerve around Golovkin to keep Lemieux as the champion.

“One thing I found out about GGG that I’m sure several experts know is that GGG cannot fight going backward. He cannot fight going back. And he gets marked up,” De La Hoya said.
De La Hoya has been saying that Golovkin can’t fight going backwards for some time. Not long ago, De La Hoya claimed that WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman is a better fighter than Golovkin because he can fight going forward or backwards

Fans should always want unification bouts. Not sure why it's cool these days to win a title and THEN need couple or so easy fights.

Go ask Rubio who hits harder.

If Lemieux hit as hard as Golovkin would Rubio have stopped Lemieux? I doubt N'Dam sees the final bell either.

Still, Lemieux is the most dangerous fight out there at 160 and below for Golovkin, he has the best chance of beating him.

I don't think it really matters. There is no denying that both guys can crack. If they do fight I don't see either guy walking through the other guys big shots.

What's your point? Demarco stopped Molina in 1, it took Matthysse 11. Broner also stopped Demarco and he couldn't hurt Molina in 12.

I believe that's because GGG is a better boxer than Lemieux, he can cut off the ring a lot better and is more accurate so he can land those shots. Lemieux winds up with everything but misses a lot.

In fairness. The Rubio GGG fought was'nt the Rubio Lemieux fought.Rubio showed up for Lemieux, but looked like he was just there for a paycheck against GGG.

Oscar is probably talking about when Lemieux takes one of his wild home run type swings. I'm sure those carry a hell of a lot of power but they rarely connect. If GGG swung the same way and connected, he would probably kill someone.
