  • Comments Thread For: Shaw: GGG Talking De La Hoya? Stop Ducking Johnson

Promoter Gary Shaw is desperately looking for a fight for his middleweight client, Tureano Johnson, who last fought on January 9th, when he stopped Alex Theran in five rounds at the Theater of Madison Square Garden in New York.

Shaw would love to match Johnson with IBO/WBA champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, and was shocked to read statements that GGG was open to the idea of facing Oscar De La Hoya, who at 42-years-old (and retired since 2008) is considering the possibility of a comeback.

He wants to have a showdown with Heiland so that he can become the mandatory to the mandatory? Is Shaw totally off his nut? Not bad enough that we have a bunch of different belt holders, now each belt will have it's own mandatory?

Gary Shaw has no room to talk. He's done nothing with Tureano Johnson to make him a marketable opponent for Golovkin. Typical Shaw just sitting around waiting for a handout to fall in his lap.

Johnson hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself beyond Mike Gavronski and Alex Theran. You can't just go ask for title fights with Golovkin or Jacobs off those fights. Have a fight with a prospect like Khytrov or Murata if he can't get an eliminator with Heiland. Even journeymen like Vitaly Kopylenko or Gary O'Sullivan would drastically help his stock.

Golovkin is not serious about fighting De La Hoya and vice versa. Come on,
that would be just awful and GGG could get charged with manslaughter.

Johnson would be a good fight and should be fairly easy to put together.

Johnson stepped up once and got beaten by Stevens, whom GGG destroyed. Golovkin "ducking" a fringe contender at best who has never beaten anybody? What a joke.

...and don't forget to throw in all of DeLa Hoya's staff as accomplices for helping to sanction the fight. Charge them too.

Why hasn't Tureano fought since January?
WTF has Gary been waiting on?
