Comments Thread For: Spence: Khan Ahead of Thurman/Porter For Mayweather

Rising welterweight contender Errol Spence (17-0, 14KOs) made a statement this past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He demolished Phil Lo Greco in three lopsided rounds.

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. was so impressed that he already made a request for Spence to appear on his pay-per-view undercard on September 12th at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather wants Spence to face either Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman on the card.

    Here's a guy talking sense.

Say what u want about Khan can't he hasnt paid his dues. If Guerrero, Ortiz and Maidana deserved a shot then Khan sure as hell does based on who he has fought. In the space of 12 months hes dominated two fighters (Collazo and Alexander) and now beat Algieri albeit in a tough fight. Not to mention Khans other good wins at 147. Hes paid his dues whether people like him or not

Yea this is why i laugh when i see dumb comments from respectable posters when it comes to Amir Khan, you don't have to like a fighter to give the plain truth. And the truth is Khan body or work is quite good for a fighter of his name.

You mean other good wins at 140?he's only fought 3 times at 47,Diaz was at a catchweight.i agree put the hate aside which most people on this forum will never do and he deserves the fight if the likes of Guerrero got to fight Mayweather by beating Andre ***1ng Berto.

Why the hell Mayweather doesn't give what millions of Khan fans want?

I hope Mayweather fight Khan this time.Khan has bigger fan following around the world and obviously he is still young and has speed/boxing skills.

I don't like this, but I must admit it's true. Other than GGG, Cotto, or Canelo, Amir Khan is probably the leading candidate. Khan has more fans than GGG, and we've already seen Mayweather beat Cotto, Canelo, and Pacquiao. I would much rather see Floyd fight GGG @ 154, but I can't guarantee that the fight would do better than Floyd vs. Khan. It's just sad that Khan didn't step up and beat Brook, just like he didn't step up and beat Alexander before Porter took his belt. It seems Khan is protecting himself with Diaz, Collazo, Alexander, and Algeri, when Floyd is fighting Cotto, Canelo, Maidana, and Pacquiao. Khan really should beat a big named talent at 147, or at least grab a belt @ 147, before he gets a shot, but unfortunately, I feel Floyd is running out of options!

I think Mayweather-Khan makes more sense now. Yeah he struggled a bit with Algieri, but Algieri isn't a complete scrub. Khan did also beat Devon Alexander, who was a pretty solid Welterweight. I would've felt better about the fight though if they'd made Khan-Thurman/Porter instead of Algieri though.

To be honest, I don't care whom Mayweather fights next as there's not much separating the list of available fighters. You can't bash Floyd fighting Khan but go on to say he should fight Brook, Porter or Thurman; they're in the same tier, arguably lower, than Khan.

At this stage there isn't a fighter in the welterweight division who has established himself as being ahead of the pack.
