he didnt underestimate maidana, thats why he made him wear pillow gloves. in the rematch he came back with cheating tactics and kenny bayless just to make sure maidana didnt have a chance

Actually its the other way around. Floyd said that he didn't want to fight Cotto at or around that time. Cotto did NOT say that.

I don't think Mayweather has ever underestimated an opponent to be honest.

Floyd Mayweather is NOT interested in a fight with Cotto 2007-12-16..... Floyd gave his thought on Cotto trying to lure Floyd into a fight...... more importantly, Floyd doesn't feel the fight makes any financial sense at the moment.

WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25KOs) is not interested in a potential fight with WBA champ Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) of Puerto Rico, at le

Mayweather underestimated Cotto for sure which had been confirmed. After the fight in the locker room Mosley visited Mayweather to congratulate him on defeating Cotto, Mayweather shook Mosley's hand and said damn why didnt you tell me that boy was that good. This according to Mosley.

The Cotto fight was much tougher for Mayweather for a number of reasons. The Jab for one, also Mayweather had his lowest landed punches of any fight in his entire career against Cotto, including the closest punch margin. Mayweather landed only 26% of his punches where as Cotto landed 21%. There were also many times where Cotto dragged and backed Mayweather to a corner and Mayweather found it hard to get out, Mayweather also struggled to spin Cotto which he had no problem doing to Maidana. Mayweathers fight with Maidana was a "rough" fight and thats about it.

Mayweather upped his training for Cotto, everything lead to Mayweather knowing what he was up against. In fact it was after that fight that Sr. cut down on Mayweather's training.
