Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz Now Training With Abel Sanchez in Big Bear

There had been a rather alarming trend with heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz in recent fights. Never exactly svelte, his weight had been steadily climbing in recent fights and his weight was creeping up into the 260's. After he struggled in his last outing in December against Sergey Liakhovich, he was effectively shelved by Top Rank till he lost a significant amount of weight.

Its been his way or the highway? He's still a prospect to me, he's got no right calling any shots...

I like him, 30lbs. in that amount of time is very good. The next weight reduction will be harder but they're looking to add some muscle once he has good wind and acclamtes to the routine.
I think Abel is a capable trainer who pours his heart and soul into his boys.
Ruiz is in the best place he could be!

The hardest thing is changing what's between his ears, not below his belt line. He has to change the way he eats, and trains and realize he's a professional and needs to take this sport serious.

Eating is a way of life, so hopefully he loses the weight, and then sees how explosive he is at that weight. Then he will be motivated to keep it off, and continue his career in an optimal way.

Ruiz is not qualified to fight Joshua. Ruiz would have to get a full time job, training only on weekends as a hobby to be considered. Also he would need more losses.
