Was there an offer in Ward's hand? Ward's fighting a tune up this weekend. Are you suggesting he was ready willing and able before to fight Glolovkin? Why's he fighting Paul Smith at 172 and what the heck's he been waiting for?

Lara should get a belt at MW. GGG will gladly take it from him.

If lara had a belt at mw he would have his mouth shut hiding in a corner. Why isnt ggg chasing andy lees wbo belt while he waits for canelo cotto?

Maybe because Lee has a mandatory defense against Saunders in Sept? Some fighters do actually honor their obligations.

And Golovkin is not waiting for Canelo - Cotto, he is only waiting for Cotto to vacate or be stripped of his title. They will not be fighting before November and then GGG would have to wait from 6 months to a year before getting an answer from the winner. That's pointless and GGG will force the issue instead of wasting another year waiting for someone who will not fight him anyways.

I know GGG and Lee were setting up a fight before Glolovkin's father passed away. They're probably waiting to see what pans out over the next week or two. If they can't get a big name/$ fight, I'd hope it's either Lee, Lemieux/N'Dam, or Lara.

Edwin Rodriguez fought on HBO, so I don't see why not (there's nothing apparently on Haymon's side to stop that, outside of Haymon making sure that ever dollar is counted).

Lara has basically exhausted the marketable fights for him, and Golovkin-Lara is a big fight with a decent payday behind it. What else is ther for Lara in the PBC universe?

... Anyway, it looks like all of them would want to fight an older GGG -- i.e. in 2016-2017...
What is available to Lara in PBC that is bigger than Golovkin-Lara?

Peter Quillin is only 31, is still an undefeated fighter, is a half-decent personality, hails from the New York media market, and easily has a handful of marketable fights available to him under the PBC umbrella (Lee-Quillin II, Quillin-Jacobs, etc; all fights that would pay him better than would be expected for the available non-PBC fights).

A complete different set of circumstances

There was nothing barring K2 from calling GoossenTutor and making an offer in 2014; Ward seemingly didn't think Goossen was doing the job of maximizing his career potential, but the two party were still on speaking terms throughout the whole thing, even in Goossen's passing. Ward has had countless interviews where he made that point.

Ward was fit and injury free following the Rodriguez fight, and getting the call in 2014 would've been a still reasonable layoff between fights. K2 didn't even try; instead the went after a nothing fight with Rubio, focusing on a gimmick that basically left them at least two years away from fight for a vacant WBC 160 title.

Ward, come fight night, would've been out of the ring for 19-months; the 172 weight was set to guarantee that no issues with weight would even be remotely a concern (as demonstrated by Ward being 173 over two weeks ago).

                    Lara runs
                    He brings no money
                    He has no fanbase

Sounds like most of GGGs opponents?

Reality is GGGs team and his fans aren't confident in him. They've sat chatting breeze for years making every excuse under the sun for him not to fight anyone who presents even minor risk.

Suddenly they care about TV networks, fighters purses etc, laughable really.

Just worried Lara would make him look **** and they're not as confident as they talk when he is fighting lesser guys about his ability to cut off a ring.
After all he wasn't majorly effective cutting the ring off against Murray or against Adamu who had disgusting balance and used basic movement & a lackluster jab and made him look lost.
Same against Proksa who he had no real success with until Proksa held his feet for too long.

Lara would be his best opponent by a mile and it would be his biggest payday by far.

They're scared, they don't know what they have. There is that small bit of doubt in the back of their minds they can't shake. Worried of ridicule.

this just isn't true. you euros don't understand how american TV money works, which is fine. there's a ceiling for an HBO championship boxing purse. to get past that, you need ppv. it's not a ppv fight.

golovkin wouldn't be making much more money to fight lara than he would to fight somebody else.

people equate lara's potential with the abiliythe has shown.

golovkin would have a hard time of it if he and lara were to spar. lara has great skills, and would be a handful in the gym because he's so experienced.

in pro fights, we've seen lara in ttough spots against fighters than cannot hold golovkin's gym bag.

i saw the angulo fight. you guys seem to forget that it happened because it supports the idea that golovkin is a protected fighter [so protected that they won't fight lara,] and that lara is a beast.

lara's a good / very good fighter, and golovkin is a carefully moved fighter [the way all other top draws are moved carefully,] but that's where it ends.
