Your friends must be new to the bay area because Ward winning a gold was a huge deal, he had a parade

Good thing you're measuring fighters popularity using your idiot friend
You read about as well as the guy in your avatar. I won't bother explaining my post to you as you are quite obviously stressing your intellectual capacity just by being able to access the Internet. Suffice to say that Gatti was not the focus of my post, the individual he had three great fights against was. Of course I understand your inability to understand that.

That was 11 years ago. Most people have moved on with their lives and do not exist on past achievements. But I understand that is all Ward and his fans have are past achievements seeing as it has been so long since he has actually done anything of substance in the boxing world.

. GGG has been doing his best to get big names opponents. He wanted Martinez, but Cotto got to him. He wants Cotto, but looks like Canelo got to him. Wants Froch but it looks like Froch doesn't want it. Not his fault he can't get them in the ring. Which is why he has to stay busy fighting the Monroes of the world. I mean why stay inactive and wait around for possibly months for a name opponent.

Ward on the other hand has been busy suing his promoter and trying his hardest to get paid a lot of money to fight bums. Just look at the opponents Ward has been trying to get approved for fights. Dimitri Sartison, Caleb Truax, Tommy Oosthuizen, Paul Smith.

Difference here is clear. GGG fights who ever he can because he has to, while Ward is fighting Smith because he wants to.

I know you're talking about mikey Ward but I don't see how your friend can confuse him for Andre

I live near Citizens Bank where Ward fought last. Usually, I go to fights in my area. My wife asked me, "How come we're not going to this fight?"

Because Andre Ward is fighting another nobody. I'm not wasting my money on that to see a boring ass clinch fest. I can watch from the comfort of my own home.

As has been mentioned before, since Ward is no longer obligated to fight top contenders, he hasn't. Super Six was damn near 4 years ago. And his best fight since then, was Chad Dawson, at 168 where Dawson doesn't even fight.

And yes it's not odd that a fighter from a lay off like that comes back with a tune up fight. And especially Golovkin fans shouldn't criticize Ward for the Paul Smith fight.
Before you go wild and yell "ducking" take you time and look at the differences between the two guys' accomplishments. You will see a difference.

I remember when last time we had a loud mouth, aggressive fan base yelled "duck" at a certain fighter... At the end of the day their favourite beat the so called duck. Oh wait... no he didn't and that aggressive, mouthy fan base almost completely disappeared since then. They either went with the new fashion and transformed to Golovkin fans or they just simply went away.
So, why not just say, "I'll fight you when I clear these issues", instead of "no"?

The frustrating part to me is that since winning the super 6 Ward has had great offers for big fights and has turned them down. Remember showtime invested a lot of money on Bute and set it up so Bute could be in line to fight the winner of the super six, but then Ward throws a fit about how Bute had to earn a shot. He could have fought Stevenson at 68 but declined. Could have fought Froch in England and declined.
It's like Ward we know you're good but you can't keep coasting off the accomplishments of the past. There is no excuse for Ward trying to get HBO to pay for the guys he's trying to lure in the ring with him. Guess since HBO has said no to him he's going to beT

Why say everyone is using promotional issues as an excuse to avoid you and then turn around and use promotional issues as an excuse to not fight?
