Comments Thread For: Thurman: I Wanted To Stay Active, Collazo Stepped Up

WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman (25-0, 21KOs) is in training for his set return against Luis Collazo (36-6, 19KOs) on July 11th at the USF Sundome in Tampa, Florida. The fight will headline the first edition of Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN.

"This fight on July 11th on ESPN, it’s just beautiful, it’s another opportunity for me to showcase my skills and my talent to the world and I get to do it in my home town. My whole family is truly excited about this fight coming up. Collazo has a lot of experience, he’s been in with world champions, he’s faced a lot of tough guys and he’s talked about fighting me on several occasions, so I know he’s going to bring his A game. I’m looking forward to the fight," Thurman told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.

He is honest. The only other Welterweights who don't have fights scheduled around this time are Diego Chaves and Devon Alexander.

People would of **** on any other of the lower ranked Welters like they will Collazo.

Can't dislike the guy for being honest. Collazo has 0 chance but at least Thurman is staying active. Would like Thurman to fight Brook in the fall or maybe Maidana in December.

I'm glad you mentioned him as I was going to. I thought Thurman - Collazo was a poor match up since it was announced. I don't like Porter Broner because I thing Porter will be weakened. Would love to have seen Thurman - Porter.
But the truth of the matter in the WW division is that the Mayweather / Pacquiao financials means all the top contenders are avoiding each other and hoping to stay undefeated so they can get a big paycheck. No-one wants a piece of Chavez as he is a tricky customer who makes you look bad but having said that Thurman would be too much for him.
