One of the true greats and a gentleman to boot. Martinez deserved better than what he got in his last fight and I wish he had one farewell bout against a man he could beat but it's not to be. Thank you for all the great times.

Sergio Martinez is such a great fighter. Im glad he retired, he knew he didnt have it in his knees anymore and he gave it everything he had. He was even humble in defeat and always fought the best, had skills and was very exciting to watch. He will retire with his body and brain intact and did not try to go longer than he should. He has money now and has a hall of fame career. His speed, power, and stamina was something to behold. The MW Champ!

All he had was his PED abilities, otherwise he had no skills.
Sergio had NO real KOs early on and then in 2002 he becomes a a beast?
Suspect.

Sergio never was any good just overrated
Sergio kept his hands down to low thinking he was Ali. Serg KO'd the human toothpick in Tall paul and beat up the alcoholic drunk Pavlik who had no cutman in his corner.Martinez was not very good at all. Good riddance.

The disrespect shown in this thread makes me feel a bit sad
Quality boxer and a total class act inside and outside the ring, a credit to the sport. Deserves far more than the ****ty comments left here. Would it hurt you guys to just save your petty rubbish for the playground once in a while?
No wonder boxers often feel they owe the fans f8ck all, this is the thanks they get.

He was 37 when he got his signature win over poor P. Willy.
At 37 does a man become faster and stronger than he ever has been? Nope. Martinez is became a PED user, like so many late 30s fighters of this generation.
He proceeded to maim P. Willy and celebrated and didn't even check up on this man he tried to murder.
Martinez is a fraud and a coward. A man who quit on his stool in his final fight. Pathetic. He could've at least tried to finish the fight.
