Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: Golovkin Has Had 8 or 9 Different Excuses

WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14KOs) is a week away from his scheduled return. Ward, who's been out of the ring since November 2013, is back in the ring on June 20th against Paul Smith at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The fight will headline Roc Nation Sports' first televised event on BET.

During Ward's period of inactivity, his name was consistently linked to several potential fights. One of those potential fights would come against WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (33-0, 30KOs).

And Ward has yet to set foot in a ring in how long? How is he still WBA super champ? And next he is fighting Smith at what weight?

Can't disagree with anything that he said here, I have seen it many atime. You call someone out or build your reputation on everyone ducking you. Then when people call you out you have different excuses on why the fight can't happen yet. It goes with bradley when he called out Khan, he went with Kovalev when he called out Adonis, and with GGG too... The problem is the media and fans accepting the excuses and moving on with it.

Ball is in your court again, Gennady.

Ward and Lara have openly stated multiple times they're willing to fight.

Let's see what tomato can Golovkin's team trots out next, whilst making more excuses NOT to fight top level opposition.

In a perfect world, Cotto must be made to fight GGG before he fight's Canelo or anybody else for the middleweight lineal title. How is it not clear that Cotto has already been give a chance to fight Canelo but could not get it done (so instead Geale was brought in)? In a perfect world, Cotto would be stripped of the WBC belt if he made a middleweight title fight with any other fighter than GGG; however, in our less than perfect obsessed with $$$ world, the WBC won't hold Cotto to anything as long as they collect their sanctioning fee, so be prepared to wait a long, long time for Cotto (or anybody he loses the WBC belt to) to fight GGG.

ggg wont fight, he only fights C and B level fighters. he cant be exposed yet, they need to try to hype him up more for a huge payday to cash out. then once he finally gets exposed he will fight froch, bute, etc.

"Let's get it on" says the fighter who hasn't fought (for one reason or another) since November 16, 2013, and now is scheduled to fight Paul (I lost my last two fights and three out of my last seven, and I am currently the 31st ranked super middleweight by BoxRec.com) Smith (whose last four opponents whom he beat have a combined record of 50 wins and 74 losses). Yes, let's get it on as long as Ward's opponent is not a threat in any way, shape, or form.
