  • Apparently it's only cowardly to call out smaller fighters when GGG does it.

But we'll fight Willie Monroe Jr, doe.
Huge difference in what Willie Monroe gets paid and what Ward gets paid. That's the argument there is how can HBO afford it? If Ward is going to ask for $3-$4 million at least, Golovkin surely would get paid more than his last fight ($1.5m) at that point you're getting into PPV territory and this is not a PPV fight, not now anyways. Remember, Ward's purse is why he's fighting on BET in his next fight because HBO wouldn't approve such high costs for a tune up. In order for this fight to happen on regular HBO they'll need to figure out the purse, hopefully they can iron all that stuff out.

Regardless of all that, this fight can happen in the future, not now. Ward has a tune up coming up after not fighting for a very long time. After that we don't even know if Ward is planning on fighting at 168 or 175 So we'll have to see what he does. But people eat this kind of stuff up and unrealistically expect Golovkin to fight him immediately when Ward himself isn't ready for a GGG fight (which is why he's fighting a guy like Paul Smith coming off back to back losses). This could be a big fight for 2016 if both keep winning. They both have expressed interest in the fight so I see it happening eventually.

Yea except Golovkin made $1.5m and Monroe made $100k. Ward would ask for $2.5m or more. This is why it's not a plausible fight at the moment. It's just that most people on this site have a hate agenda that they have to stick by.

That's what it is. I've noticed Ward and Lara's popularity on NSB among the Puerto Ricans has increased dramatically over the past year. Pretty funny to see.

                And?

If Foyd was fighting the level of guys on Golovkin's resume he'd be crucified for being a cherrypicker.

He is not begging anyone for PPV fights. Of the three you mention, the only one he has called out is Cotto who has the balls of a flea and gets the stutters at the sound of GGG's name. And he really doesn't give a damn about fighting Cotto, he just wants his title. If Cotto drops it, GGG will never mention his name again. Canelo and Floyd are only acknowledged when their names are brought up by interviewers. If you have a problem with that, contact every boxing media outlet and ask them to stop mentioning them in their interviews.

Andre Ward was p4p no.2 before his period of inactivity and when he gets back in the ring at world level, he will be elevated to that position again. Having watched Froch in his fights versus Groves and Froch, I am certain he has regressed and Ward would undoubtedly stop him. As for GGG, would he take a single round against a truly elite level fighter his own size ? The fight against Monroe I had him losing round upon rounds, cold hard truth be GGG may very well have reached his ceiling, hence why he is targeting JMW's.
Honestly, what are you going on about? Losing rounds upon rounds against Monroe? Golovkin was untouchable in rounds 1 and 2,especially when he landed that left in the second, which made Monroe forget his own name. In rounds 3 and 4 he let his foot of the gas pedal, and Monroe could only touch his with little pitter patter punches. Rounds 5 and 6 he picked up the pace again and made the guy quit. Arguably Monroe won 1 round out of 6,and you're spouting nonsense about him reaching his ceiling, and not lasting 1 round with an elite fighter?

It's not an excuse for subpar opponents, it's demonstration of market value which is why Ward/Golovkin isn't happening anytime soon. Golovkin has decent, not yet great market value. Ward has none. They both need more to feed their demands for a fight. Don't pretend Ward doesn't expect big money for this fight.

I wasn't happy about Monroe at all, but he literally had no options other than Tureano Johnson or Heiland. Crap options, but Willie was the best of that bunch. Would you rather he be like Ward and not fight at all? I wouldn't.

At that time nobody was willing or available. Not Lee, Quillin, Jacobs, Lemieux, N'Dam, Froch, Ward ect. Give a name he could've fought in May that he should've?

I can give you two: Hopkins or Lara. I brought those fights up and everyone shitted on them. Hopkins was 50 and just got destroyed by Kovalev and Lara was seen as too small and boring.
