Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on PEDs, Prince Naseem, Mayweather

Sport lurches from one crisis to another. Just as we were reeling from FIFA gate another alleged scandal threatens to turn those already stormy waters into a veritable tsunami.

Last week I wrote how relieved I was that these days boxing is squeaky clean compared to the massive corruption now being exposed in global football administration. But I wish I could the same about doping, which has reared its ugly head again big-time with the coaching regime overseen in Oregon by Mo Farah’s mentor Alberto Salazar now the subject of a major drugs investigation.

Unfortunately the fight game is not a drugs-free zone. I wish it was.

Funny how Warren mentions how complicated the banned drugs are to figure out, and how easy it is to make a mistake, yet he doesn't mention how it may just be a good idea to do a better job teaching fighters and trainers how to figure out the maze. Yeah, some boxers knowingly try to beat the system and get caught, but I'd guess more just don't know enough about them and mistakenly take one.

I agree with him totally about Anthony Joshua. He still has to prove himself against a live opponent.

Without a question of a doubt that boxers use banned substances. When you look at some of the current heavyweights such as Wilder and Joshua its difficult not to assume they are taking something or more likely, have done in the past. To fill a huge frame like theirs is very difficult to do naturally

Flyweight to Light Middleweight.... I saw what he did there.

There's no excuse. If they have any doubt, they can have their product checked out.

So isn't that part of them being taught how to figure it out? Testing organizations won't always be around or near the boxer 24/7. Also, you're assuming every boxer and trainer is 'with it' enough to think to do that. And even then, as an example, I'm on a strict diet for health reasons, but even so, I do forget now and then (and pay the price later). We're not dealing with machines or Einsteins when it's boxing. Just sayin'.

That's the thing with the Hearns, they are great at hyping a prospect and making money from them, but on a personal level they don't give two craps, they want money and they want it now.
