Agreed... People would rather watch a celebrity fighter like Khan (knowing that he's almost assured to lose) than watch a true competitive boxing match, a boxing match that would showcase the sweet science. It baffles my mind that someone can say Lara is boring or any other highly gifted fighter that isn't a brawler, and then go off and get excited watching a baseball/basketball/football game....
Lara vs Floyd Needs to Happen!

That's the truth though. They don't necessarily want to see him lose. Because if that was the case there were plenty of awkward fighters that posed threats over the years (Johnston, Williams, Lara to name a few) that got no push.Agreed... They just want to see a guy that can press the action and push him a little bit win or lose.
I always said, Floyd fans could have probably picked more competitive Fights for him than his haters.Comment

Baseball/basketball/football are all exciting sports not necessarily because of the sporting action, but because people have personal stakes in those matches. They're invested, whether it's in their local team, or the team their dad watched, or their fantasy league, or maybe they played the sport in college. Or maybe they're fans of the sport in addition to some or all of this stuff.Agreed... Lara doesn't have any of that going for him. Nobody gets excited about a Lara fight because nobody is invested in him. He doesn't have an easy way to connect with American fans or even American Hispanic fans, as there aren't too many Cubans. He's not winning fans over with his style of fighting either. There are people who paid to see Canelo-Lara but I'll bet not too many of them were Lara fans either before or after that fight.
Lara will never fight Mayweather because nobody but hardcore boxing fans want to see it, and there aren't enough hardcore boxing fans who would travel to Vegas and pay $200+ a ticket to see it.Comment

Or most people don't like watching boring ass 12 round fights that this will most certainly be.Of course most fans don't want that and this is the main reason why Mayweather will retire undefeated. People want who they like to be throw in with Mayweather and they want someone they like to beat Mayweather instead of putting him in with someone SKILLED and is a Master Chess Player like he is.
I been wanting Mayweather vs Lara for the last 2 Years or so but of course most fight fans don't want that. They don't understand boxing enough to appreciate that type of Chess Match Up so why even waste time on it.Comment

Seriously. It's an interesting fantasy matchup in that Lara would have enough boxing talent to give Floyd problems, but in practice it's a horrible style matchup. Both guys prefer outside fighting and counterpunching so it'd just be a lot of strafing around with the occasional potshot and maybe some end of round flurries to try and steal uneventful rounds. I don't even think it would be as good as Mayweather-Marquez, because unlike Marquez I don't see Lara putting everything into chasing Floyd down.Comment

It's a "fantasy" in which Lara has a real chance to outpoint Floyd... While Khan/Thurman are fantasy matchups ala Harry Potter, where fans think either fighter will be able to magically beat Floyd.
People need to resign themselves to the fact no one is going to relentlessly land clean on Mayweather or score some freak KO... It's the skilled fighter like Lara that knows how to score and keep a fight even, knows how to keep up on points, that has a chanceLast edited by darius45; 06-12-2015, 11:23 PM.Comment

Lee Wylie makes a great point here.
It***39;ll never happen, I know, but is Mayweather really better fighting on the front foot than Lara is off the back foot?

Or do you believe Lara would somehow be coaxed into becoming the aggressor? Stylistically, Lara would be a bloody nightmare for Floyd.

Lara would stay true to who he is. He & his trainer would know they don***39;t need to corner Floyd & outwork him on the ropes to be effective.
