He said he was moving up to 175 when it was going through a slow period and when these guys won belts he "changed his mind" and started looking at small middleweights.

To be fair Golovkin is just as dumb for trying to hype that fight. Those guys are nowhere near the same size. Ward would easily control the distance all night and barely get hit just because of the geometry involved.

Kovalev and Ward are around the same height and weight and skill level. Ward should get a warmup or two though he's been out of it for years.

Listen, Ward needs to have some serious activity if he's going to fight an active beast like Kovalev. There's no way he could go from fighting Rodrigues and Paul Smith in 3 years to fighting Kovalev and win.

      He'll get handled.

I have a lot of respect for Golovkin's skills, but the size difference would be difficult to overcome against a guy as talented as Ward. I agree, Kovalev and Ward is a much better matchup if Ward isn't suffering from inactivity.

I guess part of never losing is never fighting the guys who can beat you.
Chavez Jr went from being a "good young fighter" when Ward was chasing that fight to "a weak link at 168" when there were rumors of Froch hitting that lottery.
Ward got real salty over that.

Chudinov and Ramirez are both fights that can be made without PBC, with Degale being one of the UK 168s Ward could fight; the PBC mending is definitely a longshot, but I only mentioned that to show that there are fights out there, beyond the ones mentioned.

Ward was 173 two weeks ago, and he's easily got 4-5 fights available to him at 168.

Not Ward's fault that he's the only marketable fight available to Kovalev (aside from a likely rematch with Pascal; thanks to Diva)
